Pulled this into the garage tonight Jack`s (MrStigma)MK2 Carlton estate with a terminal engine knock That big jolly pain in the backside has been hauled along by this mighty 1.8 litre carb fed engine ;D No wonder its feeling poorly. So anyway we have took this out And this is gonna go back in 2.0 8V SRi 130 engine. Quite a bit more power and still decent economy. Although looking at this I am sure a 3.0 CIH from a monza would go much better Its looking fairly straight forward other than a new or modified bracket for the power steering pump and to try and work out which wires we need for the loom. This isnt helped by the fact the previous owner has buggered about with the wiring and some of the wires change colours about 4 times in 3 inch ;D

Arrghh, wouldn't know where to start but agree a Monza jobbie would be ideal!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Funny to think I nearly ended up with that car! Probably worked out best for both of us that it didn't happen.

I've just done a 18S -> 20SEH swap on my Manta. It wasn't too much of a mission, although some of the plumbing was a bit different. Do you just use the SEH sump in the carlton?
The SEH is a vast improvment, good luck with the swap.

isnt it ironic...don't you think that wee beastie was hauling all that gear and people to the '06 C.a.R.S whilst you were in an empty 3 litre and i, and mrsStigma were in an empty 5 litre. the lad jack bought that motor off was a total knobcheese gobsh1te.

Glad to hear it's being sorted - retro estates FTW BTW, assuming that the front of the shell is essentially the same as a Monza, do Carltons still suffer from the same turret issues or does the smaller & less heavy engine not put that sort of strain on the structure?

A `jobbing` night tonight not a great deal of progress but lots of bo11ox talked Tank off the car. All the necessary bits took off the old engine. Stripped the old engine down and removed abut 10 litres of "cappucino" from the sump. Head off and found the gasket had gone between no`s 1 and 2 cylinder, which explained the knocking. Anyways heres a few pics Stigma with his tool out shocker TCC in `signature` pose And the very nice looking pickup strainer from the old engine Thats not good

We only got a few hours work done on this during the week so there hadnt been much to report. MrS had got the new fuel lines and pump ran in. Got the power steering bracket made up and sorted out and I managed to curse word up the old spigot bearing trying to remove it. Then mainly been sorting out new bits such as dipstich tube swapping pulleys etc. But anyway I had a days holiday today so got a new spigot bearing and fitted that along with the flywheel of the 2.0 engine (bolt holes bigger than the 1.8) Fitted a new clutch and pressure plate Then managed to get the engine chucked in and bolted up. Then when Jack came over we got the fuel pipes connected up and sorted out the wiring. MrStigma a veritable blur When I remembered to connect the ECU and put the ignition on found the FPR wasnt giving a feed to the fuel pump so connected it direct to the battery, turned it over and it fired up first click Quick vid of it running Needs the wiring connecting permanently now and the fuel tanks gonna have to come back off as we have a really bad leak of the sender after that it should be complete. ;D

Sound sweet, good work Did you swap tanks or fit a swirl pot? New tank. The old one was fubarred. But we are using the old sender with the injection tank and its leaking badly so its gonna have to come off tomorrow to sort it out again

It needs the vacuum sorting out for the servo as well, which is why it cuts out at the minute.

Sorted out most of the wiring `issues`s now and got it all nicely tidied up. Just need another relay to give power for the fuel pump and an inline fuse to complete that lot. Had the fuel tank off today and sorted out the leaky sender, back on with a bit of fuel and it seems okay. Got a bracket made up to support the AFM (even gave it a lick of paint) and mounted the main relay and the ECU. Also found a new home for the coil. Fill the rad up and found a leaking water pipe so replace that. Had it running for about 5 minutes and everything seems to be running okay, the engines not smoking, it sounds pretty sweet, its got good oil pressure and it hasnt overheated so far So all being well it should be going back to its rightful home tomorrow as long as the road test goes okay.
