Anyone just been watching old top gear Fifth Gear on channel 5? While the format is a bit tired compared to the new Top Gear, it was great to see Needell absolutely caning the Merc SLR around the track with the traction control off (especially when he'd been told not to... ). And if anyone else has entered the Capri competition, forget it, I'M GONNA WIN IT, OK?!? ;D ;D ;D

I haven't seen it - I've been meaning to watch but always forget ! There's another programme on ITV called Revved Up (Chavved Up as it should be) which is just hysterical. It's got that dumpy Mockney fella (Mike something?) talking to brainless neds about the pointless "mods" that they've inflicted on their mums cars. To top it all off he's trying to "speak their lingo"... It's tragic.

I think it's funny in a pathetic way when middle aged guys who could other wise be respected journalists, (Mike Brewer isn't it?) go down the route of trying to be 16 year old chavs (yeah, wicked, in da house, etc etc) and end up stuck in that rut forever really. Although I remember a few years back thinking that it's demeaning to young people to assume that they all want to be Eminem and that you have to make programs with some eejit dressed up as a ned shouting "wicked innit" at bodykitted hatchbacks which people like me are supposed to love still, and music that, again, I'm supposed to like because I'm under the age of 25. I mean, I have two Hillman Imps instead of some chavved up hatchback, and I currently have Generation Terrorists on the stereo, turned up full (this is just now, not the car stereo, my Imps don't have stereos!) not D12 or 50 cent or some other bullsh*t.

Er yes! Did anyone catch the episode of Revved Up which showed the "Mini in the Park 45" from Silverstone? Rumour has it that it consentrated mainly on BMW blobs anyway but I thought I might get on (being near the front of the cavalcade) Brewer was stood in the middle of the track talking to the camera as we went passed (opportunity to run him down missed)
BTW 5th Gear is on again tonight at 7:30

I caught it this time around! That SLR has THE sexiest exhaust note I have ever heard in my life... I'd love to try and replicate it in some way with the project V8! Exiting ahead of the doors (where'd the silencers go?!) Hats off to Tiff for turning the robot off and doing some serious tyre damage!!! ;D ;D

Brewer was at Japshow at Santapod and did a piece on my mate Dave's Datsun 610 with a CA18DET in it. Should be shown on revved up some time. I don't get that show where I live unfortunately (or is it?) as I think it's on Central.
Anyone here get Discovery? Do they show monster garage here or is it USA only?

Channel 4 used to show Monster Garage. I didn't reckon much to it myself - the guy who ran it (Cookie was it?) seemed just to make the rules up as he went along. "Right, we've got two days to finish this or it goes to the crusher" End of second day, not finished... "Right, I've decided we can have an extra 6 hours to finish it...." Why not just finish it without imposing a silly deadline? I quite like Top Gear's format although I wish the still lifted bonnets

US show is hosted by Jesse James. Looks like a different series to me.

The Brits must have bought the format, cos yeah this series had them doing a Lotus Europa hovercraft thing, and a Rolls Royce muck-spreader! Never seen the US version - only have poverty-vision at my place so don't get to see the good stuff! ;D

I didn't even know there was a UK version. The Beeb-C doesn't carry it here and no other British networks have set up here. Maybe TLC will

Only saw a few of those Monster Garage things. Total fix. They won the off road challenge just as they were being wiped by a pukka Land rover special because the driver hit the water trap at full chat and drowned his engine (yeah right like he wasn't instructed to do THAT) allowing the shows cack effort to win. and again on the drag strip whenit was so obvious that there milk float was going to loose that they withdrew the challenge car and used a VW bus instead (which lost!! I konw its TV but honestly what's the point if you just run a stupid fix! Not counting Scrapyard thingy as the teams DO actually compete despite having help with the parts etc.

Never seen the US version - only have poverty-vision at my place so don't get to see the good stuff! ;D The colour visuals / design concepts for the R-R muck spreader (as seen at the beginning of that programme) were done by one of my best friends!! He also designed the exterior for the original R-R version of Lady Penelope's car in the recent Thunderbirds film, before it was given a Ford Thunderbird nose....

Was that the show where they made a Lotus Europa into a hovercraft? Did they do a lotus too? The american version we got here had them making a hovercraft out of a delorean. Except Jesse James got in a huff and walked out on them, then when he came back theyd tried to make a hovercraft look like a delorean so they ended up starting again and didnt get it done in time

I beleive The Discovery Channel own the Monster Garage format and screen the American version of the show which looks about 10 times better. They even have George Barris helping some of the teams I watched Chavved Up and to be honest I actually thought it was an alright show. It can't be denied that there is a massive market out there and plenty of kids who want to see a show like that. And in all fairness it is no where near as bad as it could be. I suspect Mike Brewer has some financial interest in the program as there's no way any sane director would use him to present it.
