all chant.......... ZETEC!!!!! ZETEC!!!!! Could very well end up going down that road. I wanted to use a volvo turbo with a 340 rear axle but its a bit involved and might not be done in time so i might just take the easy way out.

What turbo lump? 2.3 8v turbo from a 940/740 might be a goodun 165/190 bhp as standard (two version just with different boost settings) But anyway that would be inspired do it!!!!! ;D

Good Man !!! ;D Nice to see you getting stuck into it again fella ;D How about a cheap S13 silvia as a donor....... CA18 Turbo motor would go well in there, popular swap into Aussie escorts/tinas If you are thinking Volvo Turbo, there are a couple in Kirbys I think

I think you should put a supercharged 1.6 Mazda engine in it, just to go against the norm. Nice 5 speeder too.........

It's good to have a timescale emposed on you sometimes, it does give you a kick up the ar$e to finish it where as an open ended project can drag on indefinately if you let it. Looking really good though, shame you can't realize your plans for a Volvo unit as that would absolutely rule! But it's going to sweet with any of those powerplants you've mentioned as an alternative.

Whats happening in 141 days?? Unless i've buggered the maths up again its the retro-rides show. You should come along hotwire, probably be right up your street ;D The 2.3 volvo lump would definatly be my first choice, then theres the480 turbo lump which i could bolt up to a 340 transaxle to give better wieght distribution but it could be a lot of work. Dom, i have thought about the nissan lump and if one came up at the right money i'd go for it but also i've got the urgge to do something i've never seen done before. Lewis, tell me more about this mazda engine. What cars does it come in and can i get one for peanuts (whatever goes in its gonna have to be cheap) Got a bit more stripped today then removed the heater bubble to sort out the rust behind it. Ok, i know it looks a bit pathetic in the picture but it really is very rotten behind there. So much so that i'm very tempted to cut the whole lot out and relocate the heater fan. That would mean i could smooth out the bulkhead and fill the cowl vents which i've wanted to do for a long time. I'll have a little sleep on it and see how i feel in the morning before cutting anything out ;D

The engine comes out of any MX5, in 1.6 or 1.8 variants in the era we're looking at. The 1.6 is the more revvy version but the 1.8's still a good motor. With a supercharger, or a turbo, people are seeing reliable 140-180BHP out of the 1.6 and these are off the shelf kits for ~1500-2000 quid, I'm sure you could hack something together. Makes em real little fliers with room for more. Full on BBR lumps can make up to 230BHP! Engines are availiable from the usual places, breakers, eBay but the tuning companies also sell quite a few for 350~ with 6 months warranty and so on, due to engine swaps. I've seen ones with boxes for 150 quid on eBay... Looks good, too, for an engine

The Mx5 engine is good for forced induction though it is a bit lame in NA tune. The BBR kitted cars are a bit old school and have done lots of miles and don't make much BHP.
Also, avoid pre-1991 cars as most have a poorly designed woodruff key that slips and causes engine death! un-lol!
