Shame they didn't fit the totally wild, oddball interior it was supposed to have as well (although the one in it is OK). I think the last engines were pretty well sorted as well but it was too little too late by then  |

Funnily enough, I was driving one yesterday! Incredible cars although not as brisk as you may expect. 110mph top speed isn't to be sniffed at for such a tiny engine though.

Excellent photoshops! I like these wierd things, the front end is prettier than the back. The rear end looks a bit awkward IMO. If I was to mod one I think i'd make use of the full size rear doors and have them suicide, a bit like:  JUst make it a big low luxo-barge FTW Edited, wrong pic  |

They're probably a bit strangled by the 3-speed semi-auto, but they'll be brisk compared to similar-sized cars of the era. A lot of them have been retro-fitted with Mazda Wankels.

There's a bit on these in this months C&SC.
You can almost hear Buckley's grits filling with love juice as he enthuses about them.
Great cars, I'd love to have a try in one.

They aren't very quick at all - three speed semi auto with tall gearing. The pick up pace nicely but don't feel fast. They are very, very refined though. Seriously quite scary. PAS, refinement, looks, wankel-power, clutchless gearchange and built in safety as well apparently. Not bad for a car that came out in 1967!!
Unfortunately, the rotor rips would wear out in no time at all. The sheer number of warranty claims broke NSU and they well into the arms of the Volkswagen group. However, I understand that Mazda rotor tips can be fitted if you want to maintain originality. Or just drop an RX7 lump in!
