I have my special 'dunces helmet' on in anticipation of having rocks thrown at my head..... Simple (ish) question - can you attach a 5-speed manual box (Type 9) onto a Ford 'cross-flow' type engine? Easily?? Would it be helpful if that engine was wrapped in a Mk2 escort currently with OAP-matic gearbox....? That is all.

Yes it bolts right up. The only thing to check is the diameter of the spigot bearing in the end of the crank. There are two sizes so if you can't get the engine and box to bolt up properly it's probably that.
Use an Escort, Anglia, Cortina or RS2000 bellhousing depending on whether you want to use a hydraulic or cable clutch (and what side you want the starter motor on in the case of the RS2000)

and if its an auto at the mo it wil probably have a flex plate rather than a flywheel which will want swapping over before you can run a manual box.

IIRC, auto MK2 Scrotes have a bigger trans tunnel, so it's easier to fit the 5 speed
