Hello all,
My Corty is getting close to completion now and the temptation to take it for a quick spin is getting almost overwhelming. So I have been having some childish fun in it.
It is a '82 Cortina with a 24valve Cosworth V6 fitted from a Granada. It's presently down the works car club/gym car park and is mobile albeit with only a pair of down pipes for an exhaust. It has developed much interest during it's time being built down there and today I had a few workmates come down to have a gander. I was giving pasenger rides and made a few first gear passes nailing it each time much to everyones amusement as they were all giggling like school girls.
The noise was incredible and quite addictive as the revs climbed. I've had three offers to buy it already and it's not even finished yet! Got to be the best grand I've ever spent.
All I've got to do now is try to get it up to the apprentice center to try and convert some of the chavs. I called by there the other day and it was like pulling into Halfords carpark!

Sorry, don't have the technology. If I did I'd get in bother with security as any form of photography is banned without express permission. Best I can do is suggest that you click on the link in my sig to my site and take a look at the Cortina section.

probably a silly question - but will those cosworth heads fit onto a cologne? they will fit but you would have one hell of an oil leak as the the 24v cossie has no inlet manifold technicaly ;D the valley between the heads on the 24v is open but has no lifters or holes for them bit like an unfinished cologne all the bosses for the lifters are there but not machined out

its ok, he's got one hell of an oil leak anyway

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Yes but that's from the old VW Camper.
Lewis, glad you're still up for it. Won't be able to take it out for a spin though I'm afraid as it's being trailored. Unless of course your there towards late afternoon. In that case you can follow me back to work (not far) and we'll unload it and hoon it around the car park!
Anway, you have to come down. I need to have a drool/look over your Dolly Sprint.

The 24v sounds great. I do sometimes have little day dreams about what one would be like in my 4i but I'm concerned performance wise it wouldn't be much over my 3.1 Cologne. They do look great in the engine bay though plus more modern and efficient.

My old 4i was a standard 2.8 and that was thirsty enough, a 3.1 must be hella juicy?

But not as bad as the 2.8 turbo which was so inefficient it totally shocked my mate who'd spent the week prior driving a DB9.

The problems with the Cosworth V6 are:
1) Parts are bloody expensive (Gaskets etc...)
2) There's sod all after market kit (with the exception of private development by a few enthusiasts who have had good results)
3) They are tuned to an autobox (ECU & Cam profiles) which means not much happens below 3,000rpm.
But there is potential and after market management sorts a lot of it out.
Sadly, I have a horrible feeling I mine might be showing signs of water contamination in the oil which considering the price of gaskets etc... will terminate the project. Buger!

That's the firm I was thinking of. They've donea lot of development work with someone known on the net as 'Madoldbuger' who spends time (or did) on the Interford forum.

its ok, he's got one hell of an oil leak anyway yes, theres so much oil outside on the road under my car - i had a representative from OPEC round this afternoon - wants me to slow production to 50 barrels a week ;D getting sorted in around 12 hours - i ll have to get a photo of it - huge pile of oil with 225 tyre marks leading out and up the road - none of the neighbours want to park outside my house while iam out - as they know i will park outside theres and leave an oily deposit

oh, your car leaks. That's a bloody good wayof reserving your parking place! The cosworth block is slightly different. It is strengthend internaly and has an improved crank. There's also modifications to the water pump and a few other bits and bobs.
