madold curse word lives over on www.fordpower.org.uk/forum/ now, there are loads of tuning bits about for the 24v now, fitting the later BOB cams evens up the power spread, but even standard they still make the same power below 3000rpm the old 12v did so not exactly sluggish. on the subject of leaky gaskets, my advice would be to whip your engine out and store it (they WILL get rare and expensive soon, Ford didnt make that many) and just buy another granny with a healthy engine and drop that into your tina. keep doing that untill it becomes cheaper to fix one of your stored engine sthan buy another one. cam cover gaskets can be bought from barry at XR4i spares much cheaper than from fords, although the rest of the gasket set isnt THAT expensive, i havent bought one for a few years, but the set for an old 12v used to be over £150 anyway.

I'd love to rebuold one if I could afford to. I'll do a bit more investigating.
Russell, Dolly sounds interesting. Would the V6 not be a bit heavy for it though?

Not looked into weights to be honest, would it make a lot of difference? I was gonna sell the Ultima on but i think i will run it until i can afford the transplant, I'm needing a Volvo rear axle as well.

Does the Cosworth have alloy or iron heads?
I know an Essex V6 weighs a fair bit more than a Rover V8 (depends somewhat on ancilleries and fuelling of course), so unless you move it waaaaay back it'll be an understeering pig!

The cosworth does have alloy heads but they are big and probably weight more than the smaller and simpler iron heads of the 12 valve engine. Remember, there's all the extra valve gear and 4 camshafts in there.
Personaly for a Dolly I'd go for a nice tuned straight 4. My ideal Dolly would be either a sprint on throttle bodies and megasquirt (including ignition) or a plain dolly with prehaps a Rover T16 conversion.
