Lovely.
Hate be a spoil sport but surely keeping a gas canister in your house isn't a good idea? I'm sure its not gonna leak but I wouldn't fancy running the risk.

Progress, Last night I managed to get the sliding roof out without destroying it, I'm 99% sure I don't want to use it and have been planning to replace it with a full steel fixed roof, Trouble with this is its a compound curved roof, I don't have local access to a english wheel, so I need to use a roof off a production car. as the curve across the roof it not major I decided just to make up some stringers, made from din rails originally for consumer units and are £1,50 each in my local electrical wholesalers, Simply tweeked in the vise with a gentle pull by me every 2" which has given me a nice set in the rail, The other curve to the roof is far more obvious, To copy this and make a template I may have taken the wrong route, It may work, may not, the template is needed so I can take it round a breakers and fit it to other roofs to find a suitable donor. Whats the odds its not going to work, I am not confident, 3mm ply strips glued and clamped to the roof, hopefully will keep the form when dry,

Been a busy couple of days, my wooden template actually worked, and off I trotted to 5 different breakers yards, not one of the f-ckwits would let me in their yard to have a rummage, with the usual H&S excuses and oh we don't sell roofs from cars, or punitive charges, any roof we cut off is £200, Rather got the impression they don't want to sell anything. SO..... off I toddle down to the local fabricating shop, 1 sheet of 20 gauge later and some repair sections folded up. Fitted my cheapskate roof stringers, and proceeded to remove the sunroof runners etc with my trusty grinder. cut my sheet steel to just fit inside the hole that was left, with that sized, welder torch in hand, with the aid of a strong magnets held the sheet in position, I hopefully have it tacked in place without too much distortion and flush to the original roof,

At last things are starting to get moving, Now I have my Colchester Bantam up and running, Cracking little lathe running off an inverter, First Job has been to back off my drums so they will fit into the rear of my wheels. Next has been to get my new MGB hubs to fit the Austin stubs, not a major job with the MGB and Austin sharing the same size bore on both bearings, its just a case of machining the hub to move the inner bearing closer to the outer bearing, Before, and after, I have done loads more, mostly on the front axle, nearly resulting in getting the car at about the ride height I want without resulting in the need for channelling the body, That still may happen, watch this space,

How did I miss this, it's awesome, nice work, I'm loving the plan, that engine is inspired. Will it sit across the car, or will the cylinders be in line, what drive arrangement are you using?

The V twin will be mounted sideways so the drive will be facing rearwards and still under the bonnet, removing the sprocket and fitting a drive flange is easy, as the gearbox splines are the same as Suzuki Hayabusa so they are readily available, and a simple prop will connect to the rear axle.

Been looking at ride height again, and to see if the shell needs to be channelled, I think I can get away without channelling, its at about 6" off the ground at the moment, not sure about the tank, I need to fix it in position and have another look, The piece of sheet is where the sill will be, runs about the level with the bottom of the chassis.
