I have a choice of a few clocks to use, including some very old 20/30s clocks, TBH I'm not sure, I have some modern retro style clocks, which, being an electronic speedo, can be programmed easily, I also think I need a gear position indicator, which would be hidden somewhere, Wanting a tach, and using a 2 cylinder engine, Its limited, Sitting here, I may just of had an epiphany, a bit of research may be needed, A mechanical, cable drive tach might work??? 1:1 drive and 10,000 rpm ??

Crack open an already broken bike rev counter and pour the guts into something period with lots of shiny brass. A lot easier to run a wire then make a leak free accurate mechanical counter.

Today I have been mostly trying my front brakes for fit, I was a bit dubious about them fitting inside the wheel, or for that matter how they would look. I'm quite happy, And Ollie the Cocker thinks they look OK too, The discs are a boot fair buy, new and boxed, 320mm and the callipers are Yamaha R1 6pots, Everything lines up on the car, except the steering arms foul, they need to be swapped over, so the ackerman can be corrected and miss the discs, but they are resisting the temptation to come out of the upright, even with a bit of heat they are being rather stubborn,.....

I love this. This is going to be the perfect mix of traditional looks and modern tech. Looking forward to seeing it progress.

That looks mental, but when someone posted a Dodge V10 powered car with spokes in the General Board, everybody said that it'd rip the spokes right out of the wheels if the tires were good... have you thought about that possibility when braking? I'm assuming if you can skid, you're alright...

When this thing's finished the whole car will probably weigh less than a Dodge V10 lump anyway...

Now I am fed up with doing nothing, I thought I would take the opportunity to chop an axle up. I hate the smell of EP90!!!!! I started with this, A Reliant axle kitten axle, The right ratio for my needs, small, Lightweight, and I think will look the part, I do have a Narrowed Atlas, it looks too modern, and if I am trying to get away with not running out of points, the Reliant looks far more like it was built with the car, So with a deft swipe of the angle grinder, it came apart, I even managed to have a few mins to turn out the bearing housing to 2" to fit a length of thickwall tubing I just happen to have.

As the front of the garage was open as it was sunny for a while I thought I would get some air in the garage to dry it out as its been leaking a bit in the storms, I'm not happy about how the front sits at the moment, far too high, I have some things to check, as the car is not fully on its suspension, The spring mounted on the other side of the crossmember from where it would be as stock, using 10mm 12.8 grade bolts, If I want I can put a lowering block in there if needed, (the top clamp is only temporary), Shocks are BL Mini Koni adjustables fitted on the original friction shock mounting pin. Before any wit comments about is that a Small Block? it is!!!, 2 of them. Somehow I feel the grill needs to be a couple of inches longer?? and the panels below the hood sides need working

Have a look at austinsevenfriends.com The forum has information on the suspension for lowering the height, typically by flattening the springs and bowing the front axle. I believe some had also mounted the bottom spring (with the eyelets) upside down to lower it a little further. Their homepage also has a list of "cherished suppliers" who can provide all manner of parts/ services; such as "www.vintageaustinservices.co.uk/" being one of the people who can lower the suspension for you.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, David

Been playing again, Not happy/sure about how high the car was sitting, I thought, lets reverse the spring eyes, Pulled the axle off again, stripped down the spring, reached it, perhaps not scientifically by marling it in 4" increments then put it in the vice, and with my not inconsiderable bulk, proceeded to flatten the arch out of the spring every 4", and continued until I has a slight reverse arch, put the spring back together; then fitted to the car, it has certainly lowered the front, perhaps a step too far, Its now that low the chassis is now sitting on the track rod, so the next project is to dogleg the track rod and see where it sits. if it sits much lower, I might have to turn the spring back over, and fit a lowering block!!!! Before, After,

This is such a fantastic project. So nice to see something off the wall. Can i ask, where did you get your welding magnets? i've got to do the same trick and weld a sunroof hole up!
Cant wait to see this when its on the ground properly.

If I remember correctly, the magnets came from some defunct 600v DC motors that had met their maker, Not 100% as I never removed them,
