What a great idea this is! Unforch I'm a) too far away in Cornwall, and b) moving imminently. A midlands one in the not-too-distant would suit me as I'll be up there and ready for some retro spannering ;D

Well, just had a pretty good day here at Seth towers, helped by the fab weather. First to arrive (and a somewhat keen 15 mins before I said I was going to start!) was Jonny69. Then a little while later the PC Vicar turned up too. Was just the three of us but it all worked out pretty well. The old engine and box came out OK in one piece, so I was pretty sure the replacement bits would go in together too. We took the head off the old lump to ifnd it had just blown the head gasket between 1 and 2 so a new gasket could have got the car mobile but it was a good excuse to get this fresher combo with overdrive in. We also discovered that the old exhaust manifold was cracked almost in two Light was fading by the time we were ready to try and fire it up at which point the starter motor just jammed against the flywheel so we had to call it a day without getting it running I may have to do some wiring mods to use the pre-engaged started rather than the inertia one the old engine used. Hopefully be motoring again by Tuesday evening. Ta for you help chaps ;D

No probs, a good day's work followed by a great kebab and no split knuckles. I have decided if I'm going to mince about as much as it looks like I am in the photo I'm going to have to get a pink jumpsuit to work in I think I left my hand cleaner in your kitchen

Damnations for seeing this thread only today. I was sitting around all day yesterday just watching football and rugby to kill the boredom.

It runs! I had about an hour or so to play with it this afternoon, got the starter swapped over, a little extension added to one wire and some others swapped about and it works ;D I also got the O/D wiring finished and can hear the solenoid clicking as it should so the gearbox switch survived its mullering against the bulkhead as we squeezed the lump in ;D I just need to check the gearbox oil level (as an undetermined amount leaked out all over the Oxfords boot...), screw the interior back together and she's a go-er!

Great stuff to hear! Should last you well and OD is always a welcome addition to any car... Always got that spankingly good 1300 lying around if you ever need a replacement Someone take it away, I'm bored of tripping up over it

Something runs that Wakely's had a hand in? Surely not. Its amazing isn't it! The engine doesn't even sound so bad considering the handful of self-tappers he stuck down the inlet to help everything bed in.... No worries Keefy

I wouldn't put it past him Me and Ben from work now describe the the impulsive urge to buy a woeful car that looks fantastic but is destined to be parked under a bush outisde work until someone else takes it away as having 'a touch of the Wakelies.'
