So. They took it out for a pre session test and thought that it was a bit flat but maybe not worth even doing. Stuck her on the rollers (was told when I bought her that she had nearly 100 BHP at the wheels) - 55 BHP >: That sounded a bit low and it certainly doesn't drive like 55 BHP Anyway, four chokes, main jets, etc etc later 80 BHP ;D That's quite a jump, even if the RR is reading v.low. The mechanic took it out for a test drive and described it as now a complete animal. Which bodes well for sat 11th at Combe

Thats quite an impressive gain and goes to show the benifits of a well set up engine. What car are we talking about here, is it your 104, thats gonna be a real animal with nearly 90 bhp. It must wiegh the same as a packet of fags.

Indeed. I'm not convinced about the readout as the standard output for an older (1124cc) ZS was 55 Bhp and I have owned several standard 1360cc ZS's which were all way slower than this one before the tune up. I guess the important figure would be the percentage gain as both power runs would be on the same RR I wonder how they have to be calibrated (like shop scales have to be accurate by law)?

The standard output of 55bhp would be at the flywheel (and many manufacturers' figures are somewhat optimistic, and are often only achieved by disconnecting ALL ancillaries, including waterpump etc) so your 55bhp at the wheels would be not only a considerable gain (as before transmission losses) but could also a much more 'honest' figure, so the rolling road could easily be accurate.

Even so the standard figure for a 1360cc ZS is 70 BHP! Mind you that would equate to only a 15 BHP loss through the transmission and I guess that a set of twin 40's set up totally wrong could actually result in less power being generated. So 80 on the rollers would be around 100 at the flywheel, which is maybe not so bad for a 1300 engine.

not bad at all id say ;D my 1700 flat 4 with 40s, lecky ignition and a decent exhaust puts out 60 at the wheels. not impressive on paper, but I'm sure the owners of some powerful cars that ive embarrased could make it sound amazing ;D your 80hp will cause a lot of red faces. ;D ;D ;D

Don't get too worried about Power figures the important thing is the torque readings and how it feels when driving, now you've maximized what you have and it's running better as well so it should last longer to. The best result from a rolling road is a fat grin next time you drive it
£100.00 for 2 1/2 hours sounds about right if you're happy with the results...It's the experiance your'e paying for. Any monkey can buy a rolling road now!

Was a place called Pitstop in Carterton just outside Witney, Oxfordshire. Motoersport specialists, mainly mini's but they looked after my friends Samba rally car for years. cost £285 but most of that was parts as I had 4 choles, 2 sets of mains... well 2 sets over everythings actually as the carbs were sooo wrong! Still probably the cheapest way to get extra bhp though!
