We have all seen them - those few people that drive something so damn sweet every day that seeing it becomes the highlight of the daily commute. Here's mine. There is nothing I would change on this car. It is one of those cars that just reminds me that I have quite a large percentage of petrol for blood, and a huge love for the slightly unkempt.
It's got dirt, rust, some serious internal (factory?) modifications and is right in so many ways. I have been burnt big time with Lancia's in the past but this makes me forget all that .... Anyone else see any special motors out and about?

Fantastic cars Myself tho, I've been using this for work Certainly blows the cobwebs out first thing in the morning, and worth it just for the looks on other road users faces ;D

Why do they pop up on RR so frequently lately? And why is it right now that I have huge quantitties of want for one?? ;D Fantastic looking cars! Mine isn't nearly as much special, but puts a smile on my face nevertheless when I leave work and drive home. Huge fuel bill? Oh yes! But I couldn't stand a economic but dull comuting vehicle...

That Montecarlo is utterly goyjus and I want one when I grow up. My personal local favourite is the skinny Asian kid who looks about eighteen and parks his Maserati Quattroporte for weeks on end in the station car park at work. It's always covered in crud and guano from the seagulls He looks like he don't have a pot to **** in either, always in jeans and that. Excellent! For myself, having had the usual lack of common sense and took my true daily to bits right in the middle of winter, I've been commuting through snow and deluge in a 430bhp RX-7. Which is at least life-affirming. She's needed a good clean though In fact, not only has she been my daily driver, I've also proved an FD is in fact sensible practical family transport. Despite the rear seats that can only realistically be called "vestigial" I've managed to be dad of the year ferrying the li'l uns about ;D Sportscars impractical? Pah

I once put two bikes in the back of a 944 . Impractical? No chance . The 944 and 205 have both been dailies for a while. The 205 is an adventure at any time, being a thrill at 10mph as much as it is at silly speeds. It holds the road well too with the slightly unrefined modifications (rose jointed top mounts, hard rubber engine mounts) all adding to the experience . It's frugal for what it is too (£30 will see me cover 160 miles). The 944 is great. A sense of occasion and lovely acceleration. People try to toy with you, and it gets enough admiring glances despite being 20 years old (well, old enough for people to not quite call it a retro). It's ability is well beyond what is deemed safe on a road though IMO! Fuel MPG could be better (23MPG) but all is forgotten when you hit the loud pedal, the turbo spools up and it goes forwards swiftly. Oh and when you go into a corner at quite a bit of speed! Enjoyable? You bet! Hmmm, I really need to take that out to Europe sometime.

From Monte Carlo (I don't know why, but I wrote Monteverdi first time around. Wishful thinking?) to Montego... My favourite daily has to be my mate Sam's Montego. Sam uses the car very much as it was designed to be used by the reps that had them when new. Many a new car is shown up in traffic by it, because while it might look like a garage queen the flawless image presented below belies the thousands of miles Sam performs in the blue machine every year. Here it is at a recent RR meet, looking resplendent as always. I can only hope that when people see me tooling around in the Princess as my daily that they get even a smidgen as much joy from seeing it out and about as Sam's Monty gives me.

Oh god that Montecarlo I'm a big believer in enjoying whatever car it is I happen to be driving, as such I have loved using my MGB GT as a daily for the past year, its been dependable and even kept going when the worst of the snow hit (with the addition of being a hoot to drive in snow ) Its not wanted for too much, bit of welding for the MOT and a top up of the vital fluids now and then and its pretty happy Some of my friends may scoff at it not being as modern or efficient as their cars but I'd much rather drive my little british coupe than their generic bland euro boxes any day In fact due to an unfortunate accident with a friends car, the B is going to be used to help with mini holiday including a 260 mile drive which I'm sure it will deal with comfortably ;D (touch wood) Also for any others driving classics/retros daily, does anyone else get that mildly smug feeling in winter when you notice that all the other classics have gone into hibernation while yours is still trundling about enjoying the winter salt? maybe just me... haha

I used to do my daily commute in the Capri: 13-03-2011 15;33;03 by dbizzle_, on Flickr Lived in Herne Bay and worked in Canterbury at the time, although I had to go via Faversham as the Capri was too low to get over Canterbury's speed-bumps...

That Monte Carlo is really cool as a daily. Did they come with those wheels? Delta Integrale rims aren't they?
There's a super shiny 2CV I see regularly doing the school run and other trips locally. The kind of thing that used to be a regular sight but is now a rarity.

Wandsworth is good for 2CV spotting - at least four near me in daily use, as well as a very tidy Renault 4. The yummy mummies love their agricultural French motors.

My current daily is this... ...which by my standards is tame and safe. My greatest daily, however, was this... Drove from Bristol to Kent where it lived with me, used it every day through summer and winter (including in the snow - that was terrifying) and it never let me down. Granted, it had teething issues when I first put it on the road, but that was all. I also used it to ferry some pretty ladies and dbizzle through London one Christmas. Miss the old girl, but she's in good hands now, having been fully restored. Chris

I also used it to ferry some pretty ladies and dbizzle through London one Christmas. You are calm and serene in this photo. This is because you have no idea you're about to drive us the wrong way around Piccadilly Circus, in the snow, in rush hour.

That Monte Carlo is really cool as a daily. Did they come with those wheels? Delta Integrale rims aren't they? It looks like it - they are the Speedline wheels that were used on the original 8V and first 16V version of the Delta Integrale: The design (with the reinforcing webs on the outer rim) was based on the front wheels used on the rally versions of the Delta S4 and 037 (coincidentally, the centre section of the 037's chassis was based on the Monte Carlo/Scorpion):
