As you probably know i now want to fit modern style alloys to the septic. I borrowed a 15" wheel off of a mates Sierra Cosworth to see how it fit, and the result was not very good. It still sticks out from the arch (about level to outside of arch) and rubbed inside, but i think this can be cured with the use of a 16" rim. Someone said that a wheel designed to fit a FWD ford (maybe escort or fiesta) would solve this as they sit more inwards as opposed to the RWD sierra sitting outwards. Can anyone advise? This is how i want it to look.

Front wheel drive car rims are usually all wrong due to the offset and back spacing. Same for modern car rims in general as they have to fit modern brake parts behind them.
I think you are going to have to measure your wheels (back spacing & offset etc), then measure how much clearance you have around the standard wheels, which will give you an idea what you can get away with.
You should be able to find specifications for a lot of modern wheels on the internet. Just compare those with the figures you have worked out for your car.

fwd offset won't help much, from what I understand, sierras use fwd offset wheels. unless cossies use a larger offset or something

Can't really advise on aftermarket wheels, but I've got 6" x 14" Peugeot 405 steels on my Vogue (same car as your Sceptre) with 175/65R14 Avons. These clear everything, and mine's lowered 2" all round on Alpine Tiger front springs and 2" blocks out back. I tried 6" x 14" Sierra Steels first, but they had too much inset and actually hit the top arms unless they were in the straight ahead position! Only found that out when I drove it - all seemed fine while it was static! The Peugeot wheels 'stick out' about 5-7mm more, but that's just enough.

Mitch... I did 'trial fit' some 14x6 Fiesta / Escort Alloys to the septic at one point and they worked offest-wise, but the centre-bore on them was very, very tight. HTH Nick

HTH Nick Thanks, that is VERY useful, Those Peugeot rims fill the arches well too, might be good with 14" moon discs. ;D Have i mentioned that i change my mind ALL THE TIME

Erm standard Cosworth wheels are ET40 i think, and at 7" wide they pad out both sides a bit, according to here fwd fors offset is 35 www.fiestaturbo.com/articles/fitting17s/HTH, maybe ET40 but 6" wide may work HTH

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Somewhat embarassingly I can't remember the Sierra / Cosworth / FWD offsets. However I have currently got a set of 6x15s with 195 tyres, 6.5x15s with 205/50 tyres AND 7x15s with 195/55s, plus some 6x14s with 185/60s if you wanted to try some different sizes. They'd all look "ghey" on the Humber but if you wanted to borrow a few to try size-wise, they're here! Or I could have a look in daylight and see what they all are.... Sierras are FWD Ford offset I believe, so Cortina / Capri fittings might be better... [Edit: the 6x15s are American Ford Escort wheels which may be different anyway, they're certainly not marked with an "ET" figure but they seemed OK on a Sierra!]
