Well i found out the reason for the fuel pi**ing everywhere.. 8PSI of fuel pressure!! Ive had tyres with less than that in Seems the pump , Although supposedly right for a early herald (same engine) Wont work on this motor without some serious standing off from the cam That said, I now know the original old pump wasnt at fault. So that will go back on for the time being to get it driveable. At least to and from the garage. Long term itll be going twin carbed with a pressure reg and electric fuel pump.... So not too worried. Still cant get over how it was producing 8PSI

The pump design maximum pressure is then overcome by the lever action. Hope this helps

^ Or the stroke is simply too long - the further it gets pulled, the harder the spring will be pushing the diaphragm and the higher the fuel pressure.
In the Imp service manual it states that to lower fuel pressure you should increase the number of fuel pump gaskets to shim it out.

In the Imp service manual it states that to lower fuel pressure you should increase the number of fuel pump gaskets to shim it out. the standard manual says that too. I took the pump off today, turns out that although they are the same while resting. The old pump doesn't "pump" untill alot further into the stroke than the new one. Meaning it would take about 1/4" of spacers to take that into account I refitted the old pump, which took it down to 2psi which is better haha. Only problem now is... The thottle spindle is leaking alot :/

Had enough of this old POS carb I have a manifold i think i can modify enough to work with it. Its just getting it to run on a totally different carb that might be the issue. ;D

Bloody hell. Me and Damien just managed to fit basically a whole Standard 10 in the back of my Carlton estate ;D
I now have all the panels , glass, trim and numerous other small odds and sods from his beige one.
So now hopefully i should be able to make one solid one ;D

That's good news. Later (bigger) Triumph engines have two different sorts of pumps but I thought you'd be OK asking for one for a Standard. It would seem not. I don't think many people are clued up as to which ones fit which engines - well they all 'fit' obviously as the bolts are in the same place but you either get your symptoms or the inverse if the wrong pumps are fitted with/without a spacer.

Well the old pump still seems to do its job, So for now that'll do.. If i have any upsets with that, Ill swap to a hidden electric pump just for piece of mind. As it is, Ive just secured a set of twin carbs and manifold for an early 948 herald too ;D Still blooming love this lil car

The whole original axle weighed less than the stripped down mgb axle i had for mine. I'll be over the storage garage in the next few days for the other bits.
