Right,... Had a lil play today as I'm still waiting for the new fuel pump to arrive. Took the tash off as its missing the bottom half, And the screws securing it, And the remaining screws for the bottom half were rusting , and i wanted to catch it while they still had heads to undo... Then i started de-cluttering... As I'm going to paint the engine bay anyway, It made sense to start somewhere. And ill be fitting some period parts instead. Washer bottle gone, Pump will be relocated / hidden then i turned my attention to these.. I know the top one is the chassis number, But didnt know what the bottom one was.. And then investigated the stains on the back of the front n/s tyre... Looks like one of the cyls has popped... poo Seems ill have to do a disc conversion sooner than expected..

Nice progress. Shame about the brake cylinder - looks like standard Girling stuff if you did want an easier fix than a disc conversion. Don't know what size they'll be, but probably similar to Heralds etc. Completely understand if you want to do the swap though - those drums really are tiny...

Nice work! Looks like you've got the modern curse word non asbestos type brake shoes in there, if you can find some NOS shoes it should improve the braking efficiency. Once you've re-rubbered/replaced the leaking cylinder(s) of course!

Well the new/ second hand carb turned up... Big hs4 Also sourced an old nordic tuning manifold from an A series.. As its steel I can modifiy it to mate up to the standard head, And to accept the HS4 instead of the HS2 that the face was angled for... The bore strangely is allready 1.5 inch as per the HS4 Just gotta find an exhaust manifold now to allow me to do anything with the inlet And on another note .....Glad ive ordered a set of leaf spring bushes too,As the rear end bushes now seem to be made of chewits... Its slacker than a slack thing...

Well i wont be working on it for a bit... Went out there today to sort the carb out and properly time it up. Only to find someone has nicked all the tools out of the boot my own stupid fault for thinking i live in a quiet new forest town. So now i have zero tools I even parked the carlton right up its to make sure it couldnt be opened. But forgot to do the same last night. Meaning it was easy to get into. The bastards even closed both latches again afterwards!!!!

really sorry to hear about the tools, its amazing how attached we get to them (maybe even take for granted)
i wondered why you would need to mod the exhaust to fit your SU? is it a hotspot setup where the inlet and exhaust mate together ?

Great to see this little car is finally getting the attention it deserves. Shame to hear that some waste-of-space scumbag muppet has poached your tools - keep an eye out at car boot sales for some cheap replacements? Look forward to seeing the progress on the old girl.

^Oh, the irony.
Harsh news on the tool theft, it's annoying enough when people borrow them to then not return them or return them broken, I think I'd be gutted if I had all of my tools nabbed.

Like this one: As for the tools. Ive sorta got over the initial shock / wanting to kneecap someone.. now I'm thinking... its ok... ill just have to build a new set up. Ive got a few basics now as my dad found my old bike toolkit and dropped that over. Not enough to do anything atm.. but keeps me out of trouble with the daily. going to take a trip to town tuesday and see what i can get. Needless to say whatever i end up with will be in the house everynight! Not going to be taking it for granted again Strange realy as i come from a large ish town, and my wife comes from Southampton so we are both used to the sorta low-life that can be roaming around. But i never had any trouble there.. Couple of bottles of corona and just looking at the lil Standard take the edge off a pretty crappy day tho.. ;D

Hopefully itll change quite quickly.. Got a few things lined up for it. And a couple of shows that it WILL be going to... Goodwood being one of them.. We've booked for the Revival for the first time. When I saw that advertised, I thought it'd be a great cheap Revival eligible car. Didn't fancy the 400 odd miles in it too much though. Good luck with it.

haha No 400miles might be a bit much. Luckily I'm 60miles away... Been a few times before. But not since the whole dress up thing got into full flow.

Good to see your prgoressing but bummer about the tools. Also sourced an old nordic tuning manifold from an A series.. The bore strangely is allready 1.5 inch as per the HS4 Earlier 1.5" SUs had the vertical type flange like the HS2s and while I don't know if they had the same bolt spacing its possible that the manifold was designed to take one of that type if its a genuinly old one.

Oh i wasnt aware of that. I actually live just outside of salisbury (burlen fuel systems are there) so i was gonna just go up there and see what they could do. But if theres a hs4 with the right flange i might just be on the lookout for one of those.... Cheers ;D

Oh and on another note. Drove to fleet last night to pick up the new diff.. Hopefully ill be a bit luckier with this one than ben was with his... Seems triumph realy played silly buggers with the spline sizes, Output and input sizes and gearing. So its hard to match up... Also got some Kunifer on order. And bought some wire for the mig so i can get on with re-welding the rear axle spring saddles on the better side of the axle
