Right , I'm another person to own this... Ill try keep this updated, But atm its just a case of picking up where Ben left off, Making it run right, solid and roadworthy... Managed to fix the fuel leak easily... The threads in the carb were dead, So I used the top half of the spare carb, which meant the rear bolt (facing upward) would thread in, one of the existing threads was still ok so that screwed down fine, And the front corner one I simpy used a nut and bolt thru the whole lot, Obviously after making a new gasket and cleaning it. Then I static timed it as best as I could, Proceded to try start it only to have it keep backfiring very badly!! This ended up being.... REALY LOW FUEL! As soon as I chucked a fivers worth in the tank it started straight up.. As it arrived Saturday afternoon don't worry about the hammer.. It was just there as I got it out of the toolbox

Good luck with the project, I built one of these a few years ago & wish that I'd kept it Maybe someone out there knows what happened to it? Reg No. TZ 9840 in R.A.F-ish blue, fully caged, 1351cc Spitfire engine, close ratio 'box, L.S.D, etc, revved to 9500!!!! Don't know how to post photos, but if someone can point me in the right direction I'll give it a go?

Have you found reverse yet? I'm really glad it's gone to someone that will sort it properly and enjoy it for what it is. I'm gutted I couldn't keep going at it

Already had a chat with my dad regarding him prepping and painting it in the summer if i get it all straight in time.. and ive got a few plans for making it a slightly more usable car.

Don't overlook the possibility of a borked fuel pump - mechanical pumps have so many possible failure points it's just silly.

Don't overlook the possibility of a borked fuel pump - mechanical pumps have so many possible failure points it's just silly. Yeah it had crossed my mind... Annyoingly it seems triumph/standard fitted alot of different types to their cars. So I'm going to have to get it off to match it up. But at least itll give me a chance to make doubly sure all the pipes are clear, And the tank hasnt dragged up any curse word. As the fuel was pretty low. £8 in a jerry can managed to give me half a tank tho haha

Well , Got the fuel pump off after ages syphoning fuel i put in yesterday...
pump seems fine, Although I'm wondering if the ancient AC mechanical pump didnt like the pre pump filter..
Either way, I'm going to switch to an after pump filter, so it hasnt got to drag the fuel thru it.. and can push it thru instead... and ive just ordered a new pump and gasket to be on the safe side.

Cool project this! Love the blue steels. My dad had a standard 8, witch has no boot lid, just a spare wheel panel, Fun cars!

I'm going to be lowering mine as soon as i get the new fuel pump and can get it round the garage. And the old lever shocks had allready had me questioning things... Love how yours has progressed I'm going to try stick to my plans with this. Ive had quite alot of aircooled vw's and some random other things... and my plans have allways changed due to them being my daily drivers. But this is a toy ;D Hopefully all will soon become apparant. ;D

I can say moving the filter helped on my 948 hearld so you never know might work I figured the problem, Just after ordering a new fuel pump Ben mocked up the new dizzy, and hadnt had it running. I didnt double check everything, but just static timed it to try starting it.... that failed and all it turns out is that plug leads 2 and 4 were the wrong way round.... ;D Oh and just noticed your in Eastleigh... I used to live there.. Parents still do
