Ok, I've just acquired a 1.1 GL A/1983 model, its red, 5 doored and very clean.
I'm not sure what to do with it really? It should get through an MOT easily enough but I need a few ideas to decide whether its worth keeping.

It's a shame how some posts slip away without any replies. Just found this lonely thread, sulking on page 6.
Right then, how about a standard restoration on the car? If it's in good shape it won't be difficult to do. It's 24 years old now, so definitely deserves some sort of preservation, standard or otherwise.
I'm not sure how much of a following those things have though. Shouldn't be too difficult to sell when you get fed up with it as small cars are handy for new drivers.

I love the shape of the 5 doors. I am quite feeling leaving it stock and making it super clean. The other option is getting it super clean then dropping a GTI sub-frame in with a MI16 and some Rallye steelies with peugeot wheel trims.

a 5 door will never give you the satisfaction of a 3dr. keep it clean and find a daring old lady to sell it to once its tenure is complete.

Rallye steels, slam it real low and enjoy! Might be slow but it will look the plums.

Five doors look fine and are much more practical. 1.1 engine isn't that bad for speed actually. I had a 1 litre and it was plenty nippy.

A mate has one of these, in fact I think his has like a 900cc engine or something. Whatever was THE base option. He runs it around and is very happy with it. I've ridden in it and it seems awfully basic and tiny, but theres something kinda satisfying about that somehow.
Either a clean & stock route or go for cheap subtle mods like lowering it, banded stock steelies, lose any stickers or badges etc. Desert Sand cammo paint would work I think.
Any photos? Yeah, I know what one looks like but seeing the actual car can sometimes spur innovations and inspiration.

Fine, fine cars I had a 205 1.1 for a couple of years, and despite it's unpleasant ability to eat driveshafts it was a cool little car, 1.1's are peppy enough, but as has been said they are about as luxurious as a wooden chair. I say keep it. They cost pennies to fix and seem to be fairly rot-resistant too. Plus they seem (to me) to have a kind of 'everyman peasant chic' about them, much like older F-tin like the 2CV and Renner 4. My folks have one too (1.4 5-doors), and they like it. Can't see them choppin git in any time soon

Ah yes. Don't do too many wheelspin starts as it WILL throw driveshafts out! Saw a Saxo do this (same car effectively) with some chavvy curse word behind the wheel. Oh how I laughed!

I have a 1990 5dr GRD in 'sun kissed' (or oxidised if you prefer) cherry red. It hasnt been on the road for a while now, but I'll be getting in MOT'd and taxed again in the very near future. Ultra reliable, in 8 months it never skipped a beat and always returned 50+ mpg. I love it, I think peasant chic sums it up pretty well ! Plus you cant beat that French handling and the seats are like armchairs, lovely and comfortable. Mine has, as mentioned above, remained rot free too.

Thanks for picking this up 425ci, I was beginning to wonder whether there any fans of the 205! The car has been looked after, all it needs is a rear quarter light glass - some tool broke in it only to find nothing work stealing and the I need to treat the scabs starting to appear in the wheel arches. I am actually refurbishing some S2 rallye steels at the moment, but I have noticed that late 205's wheels are virtually the same, bar the colour. Car runs very eagerly and handles really well. The only down side is the fact the cars needs a slosh of Millers fuel additive every tank full. I was lucky enough to get the car for free too!

Appearance wise thats very similar to mine, just the earlier spec. You even have the same wheeltrims as me ! Actually ... most of the old 205's I see seem to have those, very sinister.

Are the pepper pots the same as the speedlines? I picked up some gold powdercoated ones from a forum member over the summer which might work. But I'm really feeling the steelies with lowered springs though. I'll try a photoshop sometime.

I'm just curious to know if these early 205's have a gearbox in the sump like the older Pugs/Citroens with that engine.

I'd keep that stock and make it look as mint as possible. Maybe just steelies and a slight drop. As with most cars, the earliest basic four door will be the most unpopular and therefor rarest in the future. Be nice to preserve one.

I'm assuming this is what Padz means by pepperpots: Standard fit on 1.6GTi's (and 309SRi?) And this is what you mean by speedlines? As utilised on the 1.9GTI and 309GTi
