If all you do is drive in 1/4 mile intervals on perfectly straight bits of road. The same can be said about bikes re: corners. They get out cornered by much lesser machinery.
Best idea is to have cars and bikes ;D

This makes for some very intresting reading Definately - also, who spotted the Maserati Bora & Jag E Type in the listings? ;D If all you do is drive in 1/4 mile intervals on perfectly straight bits of road. The same can be said about bikes re: corners. They get out cornered by much lesser machinery. Maybe, but compare the cost of the bike against the cost of the car with equal performance!

Only someone who's never ridden a bike and has never had a motorcyclist show them a clean set of pipes. Funny really, I still can't get used to a 500cc bike as a learner bike. For me a learner bike will always be a CG125 like this one.

Best idea is to have cars and bikes ;D I`m sorry thats Bo11ox PB magazine did a Car Vs Bikes shootout It was at a test track Car was a 350hp Sorted WRX Scooby, driven by Robbie Head or Darren Manning or another equally talented pedaller ;D Bikes were GS500 boggo standard dull commuter GSXR600 supersports bike with 100ish rearwheel HP GSXR1000 Litre class sportsbike with about 150+hp at the rear wheel The testing was on ABC A = Accelleration B = Braking C = Cornering The GS500 out accellerated the WRX, was only just beaten on braking but was out cornered The GSXR 600 Disappeared under acceleration, out braked the WRX and carried a higher cornerspeed ;D The GSXR1000 was hoiked up on to the back wheel and still out accellerated the WRX by a huge margin and destroyed it in the other tests Now this was a very well sorted WRX driven by a proffesional Racing/Rally driver and he was not being shy with it at all The bill at the end when they gave the car back was a complete set of tyres and new Discs & Pads The bikes were straight off the showroom and ridden by journos rather than racers ;D Your average motor wouldnt standa chance against a modern sports bike from a standing start (Which is a bikes worst performance benchmark as they are hard to launch effectively) and once rolling you wouldnt see which way it went My Ducati Monster would do 0-60 in 3-3.5 seconds and 100mph down to 0mph in 3.2 seconds........ and thats not a performance bike ;D ;D A ZX10R is 170kg with 170hp and it will do 105mph on the limiter in the 1st of its 6 gears ;D I`m sorry but the Cars out perform bikes myth is only trotted out if you have no experience of moderm fast bikes........ Those that have ridden quick bikes will tell you that Nothing on 4 wheels comes remotely close.......... Can listen to the stereo in the car though and stay out of the weather ;D

totally agree^^^ the amount of times ive had this arguement till I'm blue in the face with people that don't ride bikes is unreal.
my bike will kill any car on the twisty roads even when I'm just cruising, i find it hard to believe any regular cars can even compare with a bike.

As I told Tigran recently, I've never really got the bike thing. You can't fall off a car.

As I told Tigran recently, I've never really got the bike thing. You can't fall off a car. Now tell me you still don't get it...... This one has 2 less wheels than a lot of you will be used to ;D Totally rebuilt with Hi-comp pistons, fully Ported Heads, AP Racing 320mm Billet 6-Pot Brakes, Titanium Exhaust etc...... Painted in 2-pack pearl black by myself Show winning bike, finished it, rode it to the MOT Station and back, then rang the new owner to collect it I`ll do another one soon Enjoy, Dom Full rebuild thread here: www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?p=108039#post108039

i get the bike thing, i just choose not to go with it. i couldnt afford all of the back tyres i'd burn out and i value my life.i'd kill myself in a couple of days. so, big comfy cruising cars for me then.

Just to put it out there, I am counting down the days when I can park my ass on a hardtail having done my direct access, just don't wholeheartedly agree with the performance claims of bikes being teh oRsumest thing in the world.

Bikes are indeed ridiculously fast. I think when you get to the higher end of the scale though cars are faster, ie Turbo Radicals and F1 etc., probably due to a very small tyre contact patch on a bike.

ride this and people get outta the way - bit nippy also ;D but introduce very twisty roads and the car will get the bike............cos of the grip

CR500Dom just about sums it up really... Cars claw back the bike's advantage in the wet though, mostly down to having 4 wheels rather than 2. Lose grip on 1 wheel in a car, you still have 3 gripping, lose grip on 1 wheel on a bike, if it's the front, you're screwed! The fastest cars should always be quicker than the fastest bikes because of better aerodynamics, stability and less physical issues with putting a massive engine in (top fuel cars are quicker than top fuel bikes for example, F1 cars are quicker than MotoGP bikes etc....). You can't have all that downforce on a bike 'cos you have to lean it round corners, and the rider can't be fully enclosed as they need to shift their weight around on the machine. That said, I get to work in about 1/3 the time on my 20 year old Suzuki GSXR 7/11 streetfighter than I do in my car 'cos I don't get stuck in traffic (and it does 110mph in second....). Bikes are wibblepoo for doing the shopping in too... Had bikes for 6 years before I got a car, and then I only bought it to do the shopping in.... A 2.6l Merc 190e is a good first car isn't it? Currently happy with my crop of 3 cars and 4 bikes between me and the Mrs, different vehicle for every day of the week Cars=Good Bikes=Good Chalk and cheese really, both have their place, both can be fun.... p.s. You can't wheelie an ordinary family hatchback, but you can wheelie pretty well any bike

I should expand on my earlier statement. I see why some people like bikes and am sure they're wonderful but I've never really been bothered to even try sitting on one. I find some older types interesting to look at but I'm afraid I don't know enough to distinguish modern makes (except Ducatis cos they sound good! ) or, for the most part, when something has been modified. I hear what you say 948 But I think cars burn less often than bikes fall over

lethal! i love this argument! tigran, i really think you need to get a bike. i might not have ridden anything bigger than my rg125 (except for very short trip when my dad had a dullville) but that bike was never, ever outperformed. it came up against everything and not only outcornered everything (due to rg250 racing frame) but outaccelerated every car in common use on our roads. saying that it never saw any bike v. lambo action, but then again my mates were in 1.0 corsas and clios, at 17 i was getting 60mpg/£500tpft/£16 a tyre/90mph and 6 gears/wet. for getting out there there is nothing better and it soon teaches you looking ahead and trip planning, clutch feathering and awareness. so much so i didnt even do my car test until 19. and nothing i've driven can give you the sense of acceleration/speed/g-forces/fast cornering like a bike no matter how small. until stability/turbulence becomes an issue at around 170-190mph bikes are always going to be faster. especially now that they have started using ecus to map them too.
