Today is the 40th anniversary of Donald Campbells sad demise behind the tiller of Bluebird K7 He was traveling at over 300mph when K7 left the water and disintegrated Sad loss of a great British achiever doing what he loved best, and to keep it car releated RIP

I heard he was cracking on 320mph, thats is some SERIOUS speed on water, offshore K1 power boats are peaking at about 120-150mph, double that!!!! crazy talk!
Big respec Don Campbell

Bluebird K7 is being restored. You can follow the project here... www.bluebirdproject.com/I find it staggering that the Heritage Lottery Fund have refused to contribute! If this isn't part of our Heritage I don't know what is

Well said Rat..... I'd like to get political here, but I won't. Anyway, being one of the older geezers on here, I can remember when it happened. My mum was particularly shocked by events that day.

i hugely inspirational person this hangs on the wall in my office nice to see they have got some of the political sh*te out the way with the rebuild, and that it now actually WILL be rebuilt. Also nice to see that his daughter Gina officially handed ownership to the Ruskin Museum which is where it belongs. I seem to remember hearing that when they started discussing what was gonna be done with bluebird that Ruskin got turned down for planning when they applied to enlarge the museum to house bluebird. i hope this has been overcome now, cos theres no way its gonna fit in there at present!

All's well that ends well. Me and Fifi were at the Kelham Island museum in Sheffield yesterday, and they had a photo of the Napier Railton Special driven by John Cobb and I was thinking, "hmm, I like the look of that - I wonder how hard ally panel beating is?" ;D
