Just saw this earlier in Smiths so had to buy the magazine. Feb 07 issue of Classics Monthly. I'm not really sure whether to be chuffed or livid that they've used a photo of my car! Its never been insured with Flux either!

Mmmm - imho that's rather naughty of them, especially since your car is so distinctive, & therefore identifiable! However, I doubt Flux had anything to do with the choice of piccy - wasn't your car featured before in that mag?

i really wouldnt worry, and i doubt theres anything you can do to be honest mate. As Paul said, it probably wasnt flux's decision on the image.
if the morris was on the road i would tell you to try and get some free insurance out of them or something - especially as they have their own cars at their disposal which they could have supplied images of for the mag

That's got to be worth a retraction in next month's issue! It is a good example of a modified classic (in that it's mods are rather obvious and so is it's classic-ness), but I wouldn't want one of my cars used with that particular text. Another picture and a 'in no way intended to suggest that the car in question is uninsured' in next month's issue along with a free subscription should do it.

I realise Flux had no input into the photo. It's one that was taken when the car was featured in the modified Farina article the magazine did so I guess they've just raided they're library for a suitable photo. Have to say seeing a pic of my car with the big headline "Modified Idiots" does appeal to my warped sense of humor though

LOLz! I wouldn't know how to take that either! The title 'Modified Idiots' is completely unnecesary, not related to the article at all Good pic of your car either way!

cheeky B'stards
i would send the mag a snotty email and ask them to point out that your motor is modified, but not by an Idiot nor is it owned by an idiot - and demand a apology in the mag, with photo

I'd be more curse word at the fact that they are suggesting the car in the pic (let's face it everyone is going to know who's it is) is being driven uninsured, and we all know what we think about uninsured drivers.

yeah, id be a bit peeved about that, ive had images of the car used before without permission and its all good IMO, as long as the context its being used in isnt having a dig at me, and that kind of is

^^^exactly - the usual short term blinkered road user who reads it is automatically gonna register that - that vehicle is uninsured etc.. etc... blah blah........ But they're exactly the type who wouldn't see or fully accept the retraction - so no winner here. Free subscription or years insurance would be a good blag though if you can manage it - don't ask don't get! EDIT - not that I'm saying all classic monthly readers are blinkered etc... etc.. - so please don't go off on that one!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Snotty letter? I'd take their asses to court. Potential defamation of character case?
Or, just a snotty letter if you're not a compensation monkey.

My suggestion didn't involve snottiness as I'm sure no-one meant any harm...if it were me though, I'd be ringing the editor with a smile on my face when I asked for the retraction.

Yeah a comically worded letter might open up some creative and comical debate about modded cars in future publications!

I find it amusing that Flux are trying to get people to declare their mods and yet it was that company that I declared all my mods to, then 6 months later found out that they'd lost the form and so I was uninsured for all that time
