Righty ho,
Plus points:
Rare! Long MOT It all works* Practical Comfortable Stylish Shiny** Easy to get parts for*** Twin carbs, yay.
*mostly **partly ***it isn't
Bad points:
It has a bit of inner wing rust (see pics) but not MOT failure It is a bit scruffy inside and out (front carpets horrible, front seat base covers poor) Speedometer cable needs renewing as I still haven't, mileage is unknown but must be about 150k Front fogs need fixing (well one does) but the fittings are a bit rusty so needs a bit of time and patience to do. Brakes are bad but I will sort that out. Oil pressure switch doesn't play but has an oil pressure gauge so it hasn't bothered me. My mate who ran out of fuel in it says the fuel gauge isn't very good. I have never had a problem with it as I tend to put fuel in cars before they stop.
They only made 900 of these, many have been donors for Chevette HS replicas etc due to the fancy gearbox. The engines are torquey and pretty powerful.
I'd drive it anywhere, matching set of Arrowspeed (I know) tyres but they have a nice 70s tread pattern and grip really well. I have a towbar I took off it if you want it.
I don't know what to do with it really. What I need is an old aircraft hangar or a massive barn.....

I've managed to not sell it for at least 2 years so it's in the New Forest...

I don't know what to do with it really. What I need is an old aircraft hangar or a massive barn..... Join the club!! I literally never want to sell anything! I want to buy everything, fix everything and then just put it in a box! Lol I've got a '71 herald estate that I've got stored away awaiting a full resto one day, I've got my '58 Zodiac that I'm currently restoring and hopefully putting back on the road soon and my '75 Viva daily that I've come to realise I need to take off the road due to good condition, silly low mileage and lack of previous owners (hence the interest in yours) I was hoping yours was going to be a bit tidier but from experience a honest advert is worth as much as the car itself. Where abouts are you based?

SO41 area.
It's a good solid daily but if you wanted it to be perfect would take quite a bit of work. You're welcome to pop down for a look.

Lol, well either way you're roughly 2.5 hours away from me so looks like I'd have to make a day of it! I'm going go quiet for now because I know I won't have a chance of getting to you till after the weekend at least! But I definitely want to stay in the loop on this... It's that practical engine and 5speed box that's dragging me in!

Dusted off, oiled, watered, will fuel tonight and test drive.
Brakes now properly working, assorted fuel receipts and stuff removed from glovebox.
Ready for its new home.

I've reserved a special spot for it just in front of the Viva that's in front of the Zodiac that's missing the Herald dearly but they'll all be together one day (y)

Hi, I’m hoping you might be able to help me, we’ve recently inherited a Vauxhall VX 490. We’ve been to look it over but can not get the key out the ignition. When we try it makes a little sounds, as an owner of one yourself do you have any idea of why this might be and what we can do?
Any help would be appreciated!

When we try it makes a little sounds, as an owner of one yourself do you have any idea of why this might be and what we can do? Any help would be appreciated! If its 1971 onwards FE model there is an oblong button on the underside of the steering column you need to push in to release the key
