The show was at Ashover village just outside Chesterfield. Great for a couple of hours when, just like the same event last year, heavy rain set in. I didn't get round to correct the guy on the PA doing some sort of commentary... He correctly identified the MATRA-SIMCA Bagheera but described my pickup as a 'cut down SIMCA car....' I usually carry an original brochure around to prove that they came from the factory as pickups, albeit looking rather crudely done in the style of other French light commercials. A SIMCA Club member currently working in France says he's spotted a 'rust free???' one in the village where he's staying. He's wondering whether to make enquiries about it.

Had planned to take the pickup on a MATRA & SIMCA Club weekend at the 'Fat Lamb' at Ravenstonedale near Kirkby Stephen. Wasn't sure about the very rattly engine (I know that's what they do best..!!) so took the 1100 hatch. Photos show impressive lineup there, including two examples of what was based on the SIMCA/Dodge/Talbot VF pickup...the MATRA Rancho...

Interesting but, as you'll see from the post above it I'm trying to reduce my collection by selling the '56 SIMCA Aronde Grand Large and one of my SIMCA 1000 projects so I can have the space and time to complete my 1200S coupe, 1000 Rallye 2 and get my SIMCA Rallye powered FIAT/SEAT 133 trackcar running again. What's the green saloon with square headlights there? Looks familiar and not at the same time.

It's a late model SIMCA 1000. '77 and '78 models of the 1000 received this , to me dubious, facelift with rectangular headlamps, flatter bonnet and a larger 'dummy' grille Jill's green 1000 in the photo is believed to be the very last SIMCA 1000 sold new in the UK. ...well into'79. The facelift works on the SIMCA 1000 Rallye 3... The 103bhp homologation special. the very last 1000 or so SIMCA 1000's were Rallye 3's and were fitted with all the factory tuning gear available up to then including a wide arch bodykit which goes well with the squarer front end. Will find a photo of the Rallye 3.

It does make more sense with the bodykit, it's true. I don't dislike it on the standard car, the earlier front has more charm though.

Mr Seabrook took a snap of these at the NEC and I knew it had to be you. That little coupé is a very pretty thing even in the current condition and looks absolutely ace hitched up behind the truck.

The aim is to get the 1200S coupe finished for next year's show. 2017 will be the 50th anniversary of the launch of the SIMCA 1200S Bertone coupe. While thousands of LHD ones were sold in mainland Europe, over here they were very expensive and only six were converted to RHD. Mine is a RH drive and so is the one Kev my brother already has on the road here in Chesterfield. So, if we get a stand at the 2017 show, we could have one third of the RHD production there and from the Ward family. The pickup towed its load superblyhaving received its ex-Bagheera engine and some 'load leveller' coil overs at the rear once I'd reinforced the shocker turrets to take them..!!

The pickup and brother Kev's Bagheera at the May Day Monday Thoresby show. When standing side by side it's hard to believe they share mechanicals and the complete front suspension.

Just found this photo from the Netherlands of a handy adaptation of the SIMCA 1100 pickup.

While looking for photos for the next SIMCA Club mag that I'm working on, this photo of a Custom 1100 van turned up. An early model from '71, it turned out to be owned by a long standing UK SIMCA Club member and still exists...waiting to be rebuilt..!!

Here's another surviving UK SIMCA/Talbot pickup. Photo from last year at a Yorkshire agricultural show. We are trying to find out who owns it.

Your pick ups still looking good I see, I remember very occasionally seeing the pick ups when I was younger, but I can't remember seeing a van version ever! Looks pretty good to me though!

They also did a high top van which consisted of a box bolted on the structure of the pickup and an extra high top version like the one in this picture. I don't think we got any of the extra high top VF3's here on the Uk market.
