She does sound like a bit of an old bag, but at the same time you can't blame her given the current press. I should care more about the environment (we all should), but I also have issues with respect - especially for the elderly - is the fact that she is so misinformed by the media entirely her problem, and more importantly is it enough to be calling her a curse word? Yes, I'm afraid I did get a bit angry about her and I should apologise. If more people were like her and took it upon themselves to act decisively, many issues would progress a lot better. Maybe, she should be invited to proceed to Downing Street and have a go there instead.

Ever had a visit from the Zealots at DEFRA (used to be the enviroment agency)? Marched into my yard and accused my of running an unlicenced dismantlers, and pointed to all teh 'old scrap cars' as evidence..... looked a bit gobsmacked when I pointed out I put em back together again lol

Thing is if someone does care a great deal about something and is badly informed they are likely to make the mistake of apprehending and unfortunate innocent party. Sadly this does tend to be middle aged upper middle class housewives with nothing better to do, be it saving the environment by shouting at car drivers or making everyone behave overly PC.

were not really going to do any real damage to the world, fair enough we may kill off our own species but the world will recover. There has been mass exticnctions before that have wiped out over 95% of all living organisms. These are natural causes such as volcanoes and asteroids. But hey wait a minute last time I looked we are pretty natural too! Global warming(term used lightly) is a product of our evolution and it will probably be the death of our species too. But its still natural(sort of?). The world will recover/adapt to the changes that we have made, it may take billions of years, but it 6 billion years before we arrived any way.
I think that changes can be made to the way we live, but it should not be forced upon us. I have as much right to be on this planet and do whatever I want, as an environmentalist who wears hemp and chains themself to trees. I don't tell anyone that what they should drive or how they should conduct themselves. So I don't want anyone doing the same to me.
Sorry about the rant!

Sounds fair to me guy. Name calling on a forum (curse word retard etc) isnt probably ideal specially for people looking in from outside, but it does sum up how passionate and annoyed we get from name calling, large scale bullying, and vandalism. of course the half humanoid that took an Imp recently isnt an old fashioned style mentally challenged person (no offence to anyone BTW) and this motormouth posh do-gooder research-shy person was not a lady dog, but she'd get the first offensives that roll off my tongue if she came over to me. If i wasn't so off guard like this lad was, I'd probably have a good half hour chat with her. ...and prob get nowhere

I don't tell anyone that what they should drive or how they should conduct themselves. So I don't want anyone doing the same to me. The thing is that as a human being your actions effect everyone else. Its the reason smoking is banned in pubs and bars etc. Sure you have a right to smoke, you can do what you want as far as I'm concerned, but I have as much right not to breath in your smoke. Same with the environment stuff, the act of owning and driving a car has an impact. Right now the impact of cars has been totally distorted by the media (the paranoid person inside of me suspects this is at the encouragement of big business). However it is not true to say you have as much right to do as you please as the next person, because it might please the next person to drive a monster truck and crush all the cars they see. Which you wouldn't like... Limits are there in an effort to make us all get on. Its a delicate balance, and sometimes it gets upset. Not everyone will be happy,.. in fact it usually involved people being equally miserable and thats the best we can hope for.

I can find no actual mention of the woman who's behavior has sparked this off, aside from being female & what she reportedly said, yet quite a few on here seem to have decided that this person is automatically middle / upper middle class etc etc Sorry I know it is irrelevant, I admit, but while you ask; it seems she has no concern that people might not have thousands to buy newish diesel Golfs, and she views an efficiant(sp?) Mk2 Fiesta 1.0 (was it belching out black smoke Adam?) as old and offensive! plus like Alistair joked about her choice of store (do you have a Waitrose Adam?), and finally it appears she has time on her hands, as well as a distorted way of communicating with other people in the street. would she do the same at Kwiksave car park, or would she be oblivious to a potential head butt? No offense to anyone, but her, she does sound like a right pain!

I doubt the Fezza belches black smoke, it has been cared for since new by his grandfather who owned a garage for 30 years, he then inherited it 2 months ago when his grandfather died. As it happens, the woman did look middle aged, and I have no idea whether there's a Waitrose because it happened somewhere in Essex (he moved there a few years ago). My mum shops in Aldi (infact, I am eating an Aldi mince pie as I type ), and the majority of cars outside are mercs, BMWs, Volvos etc! ;D

Best course of action when faced with a verbal attack like this is to respond with manners and information. Gets them every time, they never expect you to actually have the intelligence to respond let alone factually and logically prove them wrong, manners just shows up their own insolence.
