A friend of mine told me today that he was in the Sainsbury carpark when a lady came upto him and looked at his mk2 fiesta. She proceded to tell him that 'his old banger was damaging the environment because the old engines put out much more smoke than new cars', and 'people like him should buy new cars because the engines are much cleaner'. She then marched off to her diesel golf and drove away. Why are we landed with such muppets? And a nice mk2 Fezza:

Why are we landed with such muppets? 'Cos people are ill-informed fucktards who will believe anything served up to them by the totalitarian dictatorship government / the BBC / the daily mail. Next time some snotty cow who hasn't had sex for years says something like that, politely inform her that the manufacture of her new car produced many thousand times the pollution of an old banger. Then call her an idiot at 93 db at close range. I'll put a tenner on her having just filled her boot with heaps of plastic packaged bilge in non-reusable/biodegradable bags.

Should have leapt in the car and pulled a massive smokey burnout immeadiately. I think she'd have got the message.

I'd like to think that I'm personally killing a little bit of the environment every time I go sideways round a roundabout, or 'race' euroboxes. I'm loving every minute of it.
None of us will be here in 100 years to hug trees and brush the fur of bunnies, anyway.

To a greater or lesser degree we're all killing the environment. Fact. But in her case, as Elvis once said "don't critisise what you don't understand, you never walked a mile in that mans shoes."
I don't think he was talking about conservation issues, but you get my drift. ;D

We're not killing THE environment, we're killing OUR environment. I'm sure most of the rest of the planet will manage somehow when we are all gone. The planet will be way better off without mankind on it I'm sure!

Point taken, for a writer I can be pretty curse word with words sometimes. Agree with your point completely, I do sometimes wonder what will happen in the future, but always pass it off with a 'I'm not going to be here' kind of answer... Which then makes me feel guilty. Argh, the angst of it all...

If I'm lucky I've got maybe 35/40 years left on this planet, I have no children so no-one to either inherit the mess or perpetuate it. By the time we reach the so-called Environmental Meltdown I'll be long gone. Let's get it on!! Burn Rubber ;D

haha picking apart her shopping would of been a great ploy. Ill have to try and remember that. Plus theres the current 'throw away culture' where anything older than a few years is worthless and should be thrown away. Or new if it breaks. Cheaper to buy another. We are recycling these cars effectively! Should of asked her, if she was that concerned, why wasnt she running her diesel golf on veggy oil? etc etc.
Just random comments from people like that are best ignored. Or you'll be sucked into an argument with a person who has no logic.

the global change is blown rediculously out of proportion. i was reading a book for a uni project (shock horror) about a guy who used to be in green peace who contraversially left the group after doing his own research into how outragously over rated the global change was. worth a search on amazon.

I can't believe some woman actually went up and talked to him about it like that, what an absolute lack of respect and manners. Hardly like he was chucking bin bags full of used needles into a daisy-filled meadow just sitting in an old Fiesta. I bet she's the sort who tells other peoples kids off for having jam on their face.
There's no point trying to argue with someone like that as that's what they want. Alternative idea: Get out of the car, shout "OH GOD NOT POLLUTION", take her by the arm and sprint away through the car park screaming "ARRGGGGHH POLLUTION NOOOOOO" dragging her behind but that might get you arrested so maybe not.

The way I seee it i'm saving the environment, if I were to scrap both my cars they would be squashed, and put it a big ship belching out loads of black smog and green house gases which would slowly make its way to china, where they would be melted down. Then put on another big ship again chucking out loads of nasty stuff to end up back here several months later to be made into bean tins and fiat puntos etc the processes involved to make the new stuff sends even more horrible stuff into the atmosphere ;D Which is much more than your everage 17year old nissan micra will have put out in its life time.
