it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Once again, This has nothing to do with congestion or the environment. It is merely a way of raising revenue.

So in short, an ex British Airways cheif, who was commisioned by the Treasury and the Dept of Transport, thinks that we must have road pricing by 2015, that the public will need to be convinced that its not a civil rights issue and that sea and AIR ports should also be expanded.

We already nearly cant afford our car(s ) but this may kick us hard, At the moment we can make an hole to pay tax per year at 180 or whatever, can add insurance to our bills, cope with do ing less miles when we cant afford the petrol (which is made of tax as Rmad points out). pog estimated it would cost his missis £40 to get to work, I cant see this making our economy better at all. PS I signed that petition, whats the link?

I have no idea how this will work when we are buying/renting housing further away and working further away, and our lifestyles depend heavily on increasing distance travelling. isnt this where road tax disk money should all go?

I'm not so sure 'cos the rich guys who are still driving will be paying through the nose. I expect someone in a non-governmental policy making civil servants position has done the maths....

As usual, a tax that mainly affects those on low incomes. For many, a car is not a luxury, its a damned necessity. I could not work without one, as there is NO other way for me to get there, public or otherwise.

It'll save me a fortune - none of my lot drive!!! ;D ;D ;D
It is half-assed to be sure - but as it's just been pointed out, the income tax here is MASSIVE% - Germany likewise - Swiss even more.
The infrastructure problem is the main issue - no alternative - anyone fancy starting a horse n cart hire!
The worst part being the revenue raised not going anywhere it's actually needed - just to fund another bloody government think-tank! but that's OT......

I expect someone in a non-governmental policy making civil servants position has done the maths.... Not convinced that we even still have any non politicised senior civil servants in this country. Also, there will be NO benefits to anyone & those who think they will save money are in for a shock. The govt simply cannot afford to cut any revenue as this measure is one of several purely to help fill the huge defecit that they've created through their mismanagement & inefficiency.
