Think of your kids' kids, and their kids too. When all of East Anglia is flooded and the ice caps melt and Polar bears have migrated to Kensignton High Street to look for food. They'll say "Never mind at least Grandad had fun in his car." I think it'll be more like "never mind that, grandad's government wanted cheap goods from China and pandered to the USA, at the expense of the environment" Personal transport is a very small slice of the pollution pie I reckon. We're taxed to the hilt whilst China burns 37% of the worlds coal and the USA refuse to sign up to any kind of environmental proposal. But big business has more leverage over this government than the individual citizen. To be perfectly frank, I'm sick of being bombarded with guilt trips: Your car is killing the planet, you consume too much, your carbon footprint is too big, you eat too much / not enough / not the right food, you don't exercise enough, your smoke is making my children choke... blah blah blah Until the BIG polluters are brought into line, I'm inclined to say: "F*ck the planet, let's party" Hurrah.......someone else who thinks like me!!!! You can actually get stickers in the US proclaiming that 'Id sooner have a big-assed engine than a Polar Ice Cap' ;D Brian

Yeah but the problem with the Yanks is that rather too many of them want the world to end for religious reasons.
Oops, sorry. Dragging politics onto religion is a bad idea!!
My answer is to move to France. My father-in-law has just done it. The tricky part is getting a job over there. Oh and I'd better brush up my GCSE French. "J'ai douze ans" is a little out of date!

I'm not overly fussed, the Bible does say all this stuff will happen in Revelation. (not the gps boxes obv it does mention a mark in the palm or forehead whereby you will conduct all transactions etc). SORRY! so we should know to expect this. however i WILL smash that little box, I WILL drive what I like and if that means without insurance I am 100% prepared to do that. I will most likely end up in jail but i'm hoping many others will too. This scheme cannot be allowed to work and WE must do something about that. it may be brought in in stages (like water charging is in NI, quoted today on the radio, "1/3 of charge 1st yr, 2/3rds in 2008 and all in 09. highest charge in 07 will be £280, lowest as low as £30. pensioners blah blah" hmm, £280 (and you better believe that'll be the norm) x3 = £840! and there was a HUGE uproar about it and ALL our warring terrorist-faction-bossing MPs got together and protested and argued with labour and we are still getting it. BTT and what are we prepared to do? I'm coming to (hopefully) Stanford Hall (may) and RR shows. would anyone like to vandalise yellow boxes? no, seriously! and no, i don't give a sugar H one- tea who reads that or how many SWAT team members erupt through my doors! from being brought up a civil, well mannered well cultured well educated individual (and still am) the policies I've witnessed in 21 short years have driven me to the point where I am completely cynical, anarchial and have no feeling of belonging in any part of this country. If we stand together we can stop this. 1000 (lightly) armed individuals walking through London towards the houses of parliament (in session of course) does not go unnoticed. anyone watched V for Vendetta? I suggest you do. For the record, I volunteer to role-play V if nobody else is prepared to risk their life for the cause. (btw this is the beginning. read/watch 1984 for the next step. and Revelation for the ending.) Sorry about some of 'undesireable' content. hopefully you will all take the right meaning from it all.

What i don't understand is why we let them do this. Why doesn't "everybody just stand up and say, no!" Its not on at all. If I'm going to be paying high taxes I'm going to expect my road to be in perfect condition. As smooth as a race track. Which they are far from! the condition of our roads etc etc appalls me sometimes. I really don't know what this world is coming to! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Well, you know, we could do something about it if we wanted. How many thousands of members does this site have. More than enough to run a candidate in every electoral district thoughout the UK in the next election. Enough to run candidates in every local council election. I suspect there is a lot we could agree on, not just taxes, and roads, and the environment (Vote yes to Global Warming and you'll never have to fly to Spain again!), but crime, policing etc, axing speed cameras etc. We might not win a lot of seats, but I think we'd surprise the big parties. We could call ourselves Retro Pols and drive around in our Retro cars with big speakers strapped to the roofs, just like the Blues Brothers.

Great idea....as long as I can re-enact the 'sell me your daughter' scene from the above... Seriously, I hope that those of us who belong to various classic car clubs can find time to alert the committees of them...and that they in turn can lobby the FBHVC (that's the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs) who have already done a sterling job on all our behalfs in fighting pieces of stupid, unnecessary and unjust legislation like this. There's some pretty fundemental failures behind this road charging scheme.
1. It's supposed to reduce congestion but this can't work. People are sat in their cars for a reason, they aren't there for fun.
2. It encourages people to seek alternative routes and use less suitable roads, quiet little routes could potentially become unsafe rat runs.
3. It works on the basis of pricing people out of using cars and making public transportation more appealing but ignores that for many public transportation can simply never work for them. People will give up a hell of a lot more before they give up their cars.
4. Any environmental justification is laughable.
5. Congestion only exists because people are all trying to get to the same places at the same time. We as individuals are not to blame for the countries dependance on trucks, inadequate road systems, out of town developments and the 9-5 working regime.
We need to work against the brainwashing and accept that cars are not the evil that some would like us to believe. Cars one of the most logical forms of transportation their is.

I think that something like that should happen because if you think about it there are endless amounts of car forums with thousands of memebers each. Surely if we all go together we could form some kind of enthusiast party like you say?
