I've rediscovered my love for American Racing Salt Flat Specials after seeing this image. I have been wanting them on my Amazon for years but never got around to it. Does anyone know if a similar wheel is made by other companies? I am keeping the Amazon bog stock, possibly a very minor lowering in future, so thinking maybe relatively skinny 16"ers or even 15"ers if I had to, can anyone remind me of the offset and width of stock Amazon wheels? Any suggestions of something that may look even better? I am quite liking their AR-500s as well...

can anyone remind me of the offset and width of stock Amazon wheels? Wheel width is 4J for saloons, 4.5J for estates (contrary to perceived knowledge, the 123GTs did NOT have the 4.5J wheels from factory). Offset is 25mm (probably actually 1" seeing as the car is imperial). However, backspacing is critical on Amazons (from memory, stock backspacing is 3 3/4") - on full lock, the stock wheel / tyre set-up is very close to the front inner wings / ARB. Conversely, they are a '50s design, and were designed to run narrow crossplies, so fitting wider wheels with modern tyres is going to put much higher loads on the suspension and wheel bearings than they were ever expected to be subjected to. E.g. 5.5J needs an offset of 12-15mm, whereas 6J is 6-8mm).

Love the wheels on the car at the top, and the Mooneyes ones look pretty cool too... The comments on fitment have me wondering about this car though - are these the original steels, banded?

Thanks, I understand the loadings and wouldn't be going wide, probably go as narrow as possible, going from a 165 to a 185 or 195 tyre won't be the end of the world for the suspension. You're right about the inner clearance too at the front, mine rub ever so slightly at full lock.

That rings a bell, it was from a specialist that he brought the inner wing repair panels (for me to weld in for him ) from

ooh, those are quite nice, a lot nicer than most variants I've been able to find. I love that these rims, with the correct sizing, could look like a factory fitment (non-polished ones) with the slots and fairly low-key feel

Is the first pic a pshop as it does seem very low for a `Zon. If it isn`t then I would like mine to have the same stance !

I assumed it was genuine and airbagged, similar to that amazing wagon from a few years ago

The white has reveresed rims. We used to do that a lot when we kids. mostly on on Mercury rims of the late 40's The inside was sweet looking and sloped to the center,so we would cut the center out, get it chromed and weld it back in backwards . That is what appears to have been done to the volvo's rims as i can see the safety edge crease.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
