I have no idea whether this could be related, but have you checked the TPS? Wonder if it thinks the throttle is shut, that it may cut fuel above a certain rpm? Care to put a video up? Would like to hear how an S sounds through a Dasnk

We'll the long and arduous road to revving above 1600rpm has been travelled! TheHoff now revs freely.
It turns out that a broken connection on the wiring extension to the throttle position sensor was the problem! Once that had been traced and repaired the revs were no longer limited.
I discovered in all my trouble shooting that I have one duff injector tho so when that's replaced I'll finally be able to hear my new motor revving & sounding as it should be!
Just to be sure I'd bled the clutch correctly I tentatively engaged reverse gear this afternoon and thankfully reversed out of and then drove back into the garage!
Happy days.

Yep one step at a time - I'm passed the "I want to take a sledgehammer to it" stage now and have driven the car up and down the driveway loosening up the callipers - looks like I could do an MOT once I've solved the induction & filter position and then refitted the bonnet. I bought another set of green top injectors off eBay - only one of them worked properly but thankfully I only needed one to get the engine running smoothly again. I knew for sure that the #4 cylinder was firing because the exhaust wrap started to steam and bake on! The other three headers had baked on ages ago - I didn't notice at the time that fourth one wasn't heating up & steaming. Fuel pressure is perfect: I've started to fit the intake pieces now so I can find the best & most convenient place for the intake filter - remember I have installed an S2 intake on an S motor. To me it looks like some of the intake components have inherent airflow restrictions built into them - so I'm opening the air flow as much as I am able to get as much air into the cylinders as possible by porting the hose adapter to the shape of the AFM - which is rectangular on the "in" side and "circular" on the out - weird: I have three options it seems when it comes to the position of the filter: under the badge panel (but entry is very restricted); behind the NS headlight; and inside the wheel well behind the wheel arch cover. This is how things look if I go for the latter - it's quite neat but may not give me enough space inside the arch to fit a big enough air filter although cold air would be at it's maximum:

Wow great to hear she fires up nicely now.
Looks a bit like a lego set with all those colours.

Haha - yeah. I like lego too. TheHoff's all plain on the outside and raging eighties colourama underneath.

The S2 originally had them under the badge panel. I think the wheel arch location could work, although there would be more of a risk of sucking in water maybe?

Yeah Hallsy I've read about that too - good point. I measured the space between the headlight and the expansion tank then set about finding a good reputable air filter to use and I found a perfect fit from Ramair with the correct size inlet: With the cold air entering through that hole to the right it should be about right. I think I'll move the filter deeper into that space with a short silicon extension - that'll position it nearer to the cold air inflow as well - perhaps I can fabricate a heat shield to isolate the air filter from the engine bay a little more too. Not as good a solution as under the badge panel but a heck of a lot more convenient!

What a momentous moment an MOT can be! At 203,757 miles my Porsche 944 is now road legal again. The last MOT test was November 2010 - that's a fair amount of water under the bridge, and an enormous amount of joy and frustrations along the way to get TheHoff to this point where I can cruise the tarmac again. After the MOT was completed the wheel geometry was checked and all alignments done. I have got to say that the 944 got a lot of looks and everyone in the workshop come over at some point to give TheHoff a looking over - especially when they saw the colourful goings on underneath, all the new suspension components and, heard the rumble and burble from the exhaust. Lots of appreciative comments and a reassuring "She's totally solid mate"! This is the first time I've had the pleasure of driving this Porsche 944 on the road in more than 3 years - the sense of satisfaction and pure driving enjoyment has made the journey worth it. Milestone reached. #DreamBuildDrive

I repaired one of these with a mate and I got to move it inside and out of the unit (not very far tbh) but I loved it nice place to sit and just feels so old school and they look great and this one is no exception

haha Baggabones - yeah I plan to drive TheHoff a lot over the spring and summer!
The funny thing is while I was driving to & from, and waiting at, the MOT station; I was thinking of some other things I could do...project cars like this just don't stop evolving do they?
So long as anything else isn't going to stop me driving then I think I may just do them - there's still some excess gubbins that can be trimmed out without much effort I think and there's no way I'm heading towards a concourse show pony - I want to make the most of what I've got going on here by adding some "lightness" that's not going to raid my wallet.
Oh and there's still the anti-roll bars to fit!

It's a good job the alignment shop was just as multi-colored as the car

Quite a satisfying afternoon today! Fitted a replacement LCD to my "never worked while I've had it" digital dash clock. Was a bit fiddly taking the unit apart and placing the new screen. At first there was no life after connecting it to the wire behind the dash, but the fuse had gone...replaced that and hey presto! Working digital dash clock at long last! Now to finish off the anti-roll bar!
