Good to see the Hoff is alright!
To my knowledge the oil pump is driven off the crankshaft but it requires the friction of the torqued pulleys to drive it. It’s why some cars can sometimes flicker the oil pressure needle.
That was one lucky escape!
Fair play to owning the car for quite some time!

Yep, more than just alright Chas thanks! I can’t complain really. I’ve had very little maintenance wise to do on TheHoff besides free the brakes every spring... Before the passenger window decided to go into rest mode - all the way down - I did actually manage to get in some backroad mileage on a lovely autumnal day. I didn’t want to spoil the experience so I returned TheHoff to his quarters and enjoyed a good craft beer. The window could wait for another day. That day was today. I slipped TheHoff out of the garage - that burble is just intoxicating, every time I fire up the 944 I smile ear to ear - and set to work removing the passenger door panel. It’s an easy task, just a series of screws and a few poppers and it’s off. With the door card off the innards are reasonably exposed. My plan was to lubricate the mechanism and sliders as I wasn’t certain yet the motor was blown. When I pressed the switch it sounded like a faint groaning was coming from the motor so I figured this was a case of being stuck. With all the joints lubricated I gave the mechanism a helping hand while pressing the switch and the window rose. After I couple of ups and downs I stopped to lube the scissors again and the motor wouldn’t budge Out with the small hammer, Jeremy Clarkson style - a few taps on the electric motor and the window moves hastily up and down once more. Happy days!

It’s fair to say that I’ve put on more miles today that I did last year in TheHoff... and it was darn good fun. I decided today would be a good day to head south east in search of backcountry lanes and rack up some mileage. This car is way too good to sit my garage with other project cars getting attention. Thankfully, I can pull the 944 out, fire it up and hit the tarmac. That exhaust note... Anyway, TheHoff eventually found the coastline and having forgotten to take my passport (haha), I followed the signs to the Battle of Britain memorial - a place I’ve passed many times heading to the continent. If you’ve not been here, it’s worth stopping by. It’s rather moving and on a clear day you can see France - which is rather poignant as that’s the direction from which our hero’s foes approached. All in all about 125 miles today which really cleared out any remaining cobwebs. Happy days.

I was just looking at some pictures of my old white 944 and remembered 'The Hoff'
Did you sell it in the end or is it still around?

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Hey disasterbus - TheHoff has indeed found a new home after a great ten and more years in my care. It was a sad day seeing him drive off with another new friend. I’ve now replaced his space with a 1962 Beach Buggy!

Delux, I just read this for the first time, excellent thread and well written. Many moons ago I had an 89 S2, so much of TheHoff looked familiar. Hopefully it’s new owner is taking good care of him. Like Disasterbus, I bought a 924S, in my case to save/bring back to life after 12years of dormancy. I have a thread going on Pelican, please take a gander. forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/1046846-johnjs-87-924s-rehabilitation.htmlIt’s got a good body but mechanically just about everything has been needed. Rennlist.com, also free to join, is an excellent resource too. Kind regards, John
