Right, after receiving a horrendus renewal quote from the AA, and also discovering that they woundn't actually pick me up in the event of a breakdown, or take me home ( because my car is over 10 years old ), I'm on the look out for ACTUAL breakdown cover. No frills, just want basic recovery, i.e - If i break down, in any of my cars, i want to be taken home, not to a garage, not have someone attempt to fix it at the roadside ( thats a laugh these days isn't it..) Green Flag wanted £144 a year for this " honour " What does everyone else do ? I can't believe this is the only way ?? I can't afford it anyway !

I got my breakdown cover through my insurance company. The recovery company are called Rescue 'U' Ltd. They picked me up within the hour on a Sunday night on the hard shoulder of the A1 and took me home and had no qualms about it being an old motor. I swear the driver was half-cut though lol

And... even though my car is lower than my morals, it still wasn't a problem for them. No damage sustained during loading/unloading or travel ;D
*I had one car unloaded at night and I didn't see the rearranged bumper until the morning!

Try the RAC www.rac.co.uk/web/breakdowncover/uk/I've been with them as a Personal Member (ie me not the car) on 'Roadside / Solution 1' for about 4 or 5 years & had no complaints. They even did my euro breakdown cover a few years ago for the normal (ie modern car) rate as I was a member of one of their recognised classic car clubs. When I've had to call them out, their patrolmen have been great - knew exactly what they were doing & were old car fans too ;D

i get rescue included with the policy on the imp,it was with green flag who were great when the dynamo collapsed.i told the call centre that i just wanted a tow home, and that no,they couldn't repair it at the roadside as it wasn't the sort of part they could locate easily or that they would carry on a van.next thing,a recovery truck turns up to take me home,no aggro.its now been changed to DAS who i havent needed yet.the daily is covered by my rac staff breakdown cover and havent used that yet,but i also have cover from the AA foc (long story) but i wasnt overly impressed in having a slanging match at the roadside with their own mechanic, who never even apologised after being comprehensively proven wrong.the AA also left my sister stranded with two kids on the hardshoulder of the m6 for FIVE hours while they tried to get her towed to my house.the tow truck eventually turned up and the tow truck driver fixed it after the AA mechanic gave up after two hours and buggered off!

I'm sure this cropped up a while ago.. I use RAC anyway, its under a ton and i've had no trouble with them at all, plus when i've told them it's terminal theyve just sent a recovery truck instead of sending a bloke to tell me its knackered and then waiting for a truck. I used them 5 times last year, and once this year Mike

That surprises me, I'm sharing AA with me mother, any car i thought, been very happy with service, but that might not get me home if i'm in cornwall though. wouldnt touch green flag with a barge-pole, they took the wee big style, wee up in a brewery!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
