someone on the sierraocforum has mated a rover V8 to XR4x4 running gear. Interesting The RV8 was one of the possible swaps I looked into, mainly because you could get RV8 bellhousings for Type 9 box, would have needed a custom sump to take that drive shaft and to mount the front diff.

There's one with a 302 Ford in too.
At the minute I keep thinking of a pro touring/motorsport look hillman hunter saloon. Big slam, set of MO6's or TH's in 17" flavour, bit of aero and some sort of small revvy engine.

It's been done by Dax in the Quadra version of the Rush. Se*ens suit moving the front diff forwards of the engine, but that mightn't work in other cars. Pic from a Locost below.

There's one with a 302 Ford in too. There was a Sierra with a 302 from the factory - the South African XR8. Unless you mean a 4x4 Sierra witha 302?

Thanks for the link The article implies he ran the drive shaft under the sump rather than through it. I was worried that doing that would lift the engine up too much or that the drive shaft angles would be a problem - from the pics it looks like he went with changing the drive shaft angles - looks like I just worried too much and should just have gone for it

Yeah a Sierra 4x4 with a 302 in. He chopped the flange off the Sierra sump, put a V8 sized one on then filled out the gaps with ally sheet.

There are a few floating around in my head:
Scimitar SE5a with a Ford 302 on a 4+OD manual 'box. Simple, quick, nice to drive, cheap to build, nice noises.
Stripped-out dark blue Fiat Panda (yeah, 'cos there's a lot to remove...), weight reduction, mid-mounted bike engine (Hayabusa?), very low over white banded steels.
Renault 4 with a 1.4 k-series squeezed in, uprated brakes, anti-roll bars and shocks. I doubt that anything could touch it on poorly-surfaced twisties.
And a hyper-economy car - so I can travel long distances for little money. This would be a 3-wheel teardrop design (2wheels at the front, 2 at the rear), and it would use the engine/gearbox from a small diesel car - perhaps the Pug TUD from the AX/106. Lightweight spaceframe chassis, 'glass shell, skinny wheels with narrow, low rolling resistance tyres, and the tallest gearing possible (ideally gear so that peak torque in 5th = 70-75mph for maximum economy). Just enough interior to be comfortable for a long time. I'd be disappointed if it didn't reach 100mpg. 150mpg at a steady 70 with no breeze is the aim here. A RWD version might be interesting - but almost certainly heavier and less efficient.
However, my dream project is fairly ordinary, really: it's to build a Ford GT40 Mk1 replica. A fairly nice one - but not too nice as to be unusable. It's just such a good looking car.

I haven't, was over 10 years ago when the guy built it, he helped me source the explorer motor for my 100e. It was a MT75 box.

In my younger days it was a fiat UNO turbo with panda 4x4 running gear(cos I thought it would corner better !!). UNO with croma turbo engine(believe this was done?).
Nowadays I can't help thinking rwd series one Rs turbo escort with an e46 m3 lump in it,quick, reliable and great fun.

Heh, I wanted an Uno Turbo engine in my Panda 4x4 - but of course, there's no centre diff, so useless on anything other than properly loose surfaces

That's pretty much exactly what I've started to make. But RWD
