These turned up yesterday, they are one offs based on the original shocks but with a shorter body, with the addition of spring seats and adjustable rebound adjusted at the top from inside the car. I have not fitted them to the car yet so fingers crossed all the measurments were correct. Subject to correct fitment next I need to make a spring seat to fit them to the car then I can experiment with spring rates. I am not sure what rate to start with, the car weighs 1200kg, it must be about 65/35 weight distribution with 1600lb springs on the front, so I am thinking about 500lb or so springs at the back and go from there. I can highly recommend the service and quality of work at Gaz, very helpful and had plenty of time to go through the options for the design with me. This lot also turned up to replace the ARB links and improved ARB mounts below

Thanks Alan, progress is a bit slow with Christmas a few days away but hope to get some more parts soon so I can bolt it all back together.

Progress is still very slow but inspired by Dez's Lada rear suspension turrets, I have got hold of some 4.5 " tubing and the base plates and top plates should be ready next week. When I next get some on board film in the Vitesse I want to recreate the view from the legend Tony Ponds camera on board his 827 Vitesse when he lapped the IOM TT course in 1990 at an average speed of over 100mph. I made an ESSO Unleaded logo as in the picture below, also found almost identical blue gloves, I will need to keep the rear view mirror but might be able to lose the sun visors. Below is on board at the IOM 1990 and below that is on board at Brands Hatch 2015.

Its getting difficult to find a good one now Optimusprime2 but there is the odd one cropping up. The laser cut steel plates arrived this week, the final parts of the rear shock turret jigsaw. It should look like this when assembled, with the slotted bolt hole to allow some camber adjustment

Finally making some progress, finding polly bushes I can use to replace the original metal sleeved rubber versions has taken ages but just waiting for one more to arrive then I can refit the rear suspension and hope it all works as planned. The turrets are welded, painted and ready to fit subject to a small modification to the interior with a swinging press. The original rear lower arm after removal and below with spring seat removed, an extra tab welded on for the ARB link, a coat of paint and black polly bushes. While everything was off and waiting for parts, I cleaned up and painted the hub carriers and trailing arms. The rear spring rates are bit of a guess but have gone for 600lb. I couldnt resist a picture of it all clean and freshly painted as it will never look like this again, like a big airfix kit I cant wait to put it together.

Thanks Tim, I have been following your thread, absolutely love your car, I hope the clutch fix goes ok and circumstances allow you to keep the Humber.

Thanks Optimusprime, refitted the N/S rear suspension this week, bit of a struggle with some of the harder bushes but really happy to have it all back together one side at least. The new turrets that have taken far to long to put together. I also bought this MAD on-car disc lathe that after a trip from Surrey to Lancashire and back to collect, although working, I found on closer inspection that the cutter was seized one side. It looks to have been dropped, bending the cutter tip holder. Another project begins. I should have the O/S suspension back on in the next few days, then I can drop it back on its wheels and set the ride height. Hoping to have some new disc bells for the front brakes by the end of next week, will explain more when they turn up. cheers Jim

Took the disc lathe apart to find several parts were damaged, fortunately I was able to repair most of it. Really it needed both of these parts replacing but it made it an uneconomical repair at about £90 each ! You can just make out the bend in the chisel holder, this luckily straightened without breaking but the tip holder was beyond straightening. (the grip damage was not me) So this very expensive little piece of steel turned up from happy Holland All back together with all parts working, subject to test refacing a disc.

Found this picture while looking for something else, it is from 2006. New engine management fitted to the Vitesse I had to get the car to Essex for mapping, my old 820si workhorse (RIP) with trailer and Vitesse on board, it was a slow drive round the M25 with very light steering. Seeing the old Si is making me want another as a daily again.

Great car, great thread..... I'm a former 820 owner myself, a great tourer, as good as any BMW or Merc in it's day.

Thanks mavesyn, I have not driven Mercs but driven all the BMWs and apart from the big engined 7's a good 800 is a nicer drive, smooth, quiet and comfortable but I am completely biased. There was a thread called "special tools built for the job" or "tools specially built for a job" something like that but I couldnt find it so will put this here. For one reason or another I cannot get the car to a ramp at work to skim the discs, the disc lathe works at about chest height but I have to do the skim in my garage with the car at axle stand height. The motor is heavy and once operating turning the hub, driveshaft and transmission really pulls the base around until properly aligned so it needs to be strong in all directions. The answer is this FOMDLS (Floor Operating Mad Disc Lathe Stand) Made from a German pallet, old bed and leftovers, its not pretty but it quite sturdy and hopefully up to the job. and with the motor sitting in place. I am waiting for some longer wheel studs to turn up then I can get on with the skim

Hi 820
Wondering if you could help out with a question? I saw in this amazing thread that you have a dry sump kit. I've been looking for one for the T16 I have in my super7 kit, and struggling, where did you source it?
Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian, as far as I know there were only about 10 made 20 years ago, I had 5 and sold 4 a long time ago, I have never seen any of them used so they might still be about, most were NOS unused without threads for pipework, almost fresh from casting with options to run pipework from several positions around the plate, just the block face and block fixings done. Try on Rovertech, I am pretty sure thats where a couple of them went. The part that could be the biggest problem is likely to be replacing the standard T16 oil pump, you might be able to modify an old body, the Tony Pond race M16 engines had a specially made unit to direct oil into the engine from the belt driven oil pump. Hope that helps, let us know if you find one and what state of tune is your T16 at? Jim
