Steering wheel is fitted. It is a 14” so not to much smaller than original and with the spacer the gap between the stalks and wheel is unchanged. I added a bit of colour with blue titanium bolts to mount the wheel and adapter to boss. The silver aluminium adapter will probably be painted or anodised black eventually. Now to find a suitable size Rover Viking ship roundal for the horn push, might try cutting down a wheel centre cap. Little bit of work on the gearbox mount done, top half that bolts to the body, cut to size and tacked together, next is to do the same for the bottom section that fits to the gearbox casing.

More amazing work, Jim. The attention to detail on display here is something to behold.
Can't wait to see it all come together.
Ref the fuel filler, I had to change mine and did so via a chap called Ade over on the Rover 800 FB group. It was an eye-watering £170, but it's a great bit of kit.

Thanks hernerover, thanks Chris, I have seen those filler pipes at £170 which is probably a very fair price. Working on mine I realise there are several pipes, size changes, bends, vents and tricky parts involved and all to fit in a wheel arch recess not an easy part to make.
I hope to get more done to the gearbox mount this weekend and the rear suspension turrets are away for modification, might have those back v soon.

Plan is to have it back together and MOT'd for 1st May. I really wanted to apply for RR weekender at Goodwood but it is cutting it a bit fine. Currently the exhaust is too loud for track use, so I ordered a very nice tailbox from America, should have it here early March this will reduce the noise but not sure if it will be enough on its own, it might also need the current rear silencer moving to mid system. One way or another it will be out and about in May. Not much to update other than camber adjusters fitted to the turrets ready to go back on the car.

Gear box mount bushed, bolted and fitted Rear suspension toe adjuster bolts were seized, could only turn them with a breaker bar so been soaking them with penetrating oil for weeks and finally got round to removing them, I bought new replacements but was able to clean up the originals and reuse them. Greased and refitted, they now turn freely and adjust with a spanner The front suspension top mounts look a bit scruffy and been niggling me for ages so removed the shock and spring assembly. Pictures are a bit out of sync as I forgot to get pictures as I went along. Started cleaning up the top mounts, not sure I should have pushed out the studs as they were kind of welded in, it makes cleaning much easier though, will tack or glue them back for refitting.

Couple of small but satisfying jobs to update. The steering wheel horn push roundal is fitted to complete the new steering wheel Fuel filler pipe is pretty much ready to go back on once I de rust the area it sits in, a job I have been putting off because it is going to be so awkward to get to. I polished some steel shock absorber washers for zinc plating as bit of an experiment to see how they look rather than the usual sand blasted finish. Quite pleased as they have a gold and blue tint to them now. Polished steel Yellow zinc plated my late Christmas present turned up this week. I went for this as it is similar to the standard exhaust in that it is twin straight tailpipes, just a bit bigger than original, really nicely made it is by Vibrant

The dreaded filler pipe, I did one on my old Sterling Coupe and it was a massive pain in the harris. So tight especially if you have big hands and then there are loads of fiddly pipes to mess with.

Started reading this thread last week and have read it from start to finish. It is now one of my favorite threads on here and have to say I think this car is amazing! Has really made me regret turning down a 600 turbo 10 years ago for 400 quid!

Started reading this thread last week and have read it from start to finish. It is now one of my favorite threads on here and have to say I think this car is amazing! Has really made me regret turning down a 600 turbo 10 years ago for 400 quid! Thanks ZXRob, Well done for getting through it all, it is a bit jumbled and there is plenty I would do differently looking back, I will try to keep the updates coming, cheers. I know what you mean about cars you should have snapped up, kept or not crashed. The dreaded filler pipe, I did one on my old Sterling Coupe and it was a massive pain in the harris. So tight especially if you have big hands and then there are loads of fiddly pipes to mess with. Agreed, it is a lot of fiddly pipes, although the rubber hoses looked fine on mine they had been fitted for 26 years so were never going to come off easily or without bending the metal pipes so I felt quite comfortable cutting them off. Between the 10 pipes fuel return, breathers and evaporative loss there are 5 different sizes, 6 including the main filler but that will have to be reused. I have most of them sorted ready for reassembly.

Rusty update. The seized fuel pipe union would not come apart while attached to the car so I had to remove the tank to engine bay metal pipes, 3 long pipes that run the length of the car to engine bay fuel filter, fuel rail return and to where the charcoal canister used to be. Once in the vice I was able to crack the union apart easily. Bit if a clean to check condition and they look fine, I will try to get two rubber hose sections on this pipe replaced. The tank metal breather/vent pipe assembly cleaned up ok and is currently getting a coat of Hydrate80 Made fuel pump and sender blanking plates for when I clean and treat the tank interior This vent valve is proving tricky to remove without damaging the bracket, may have to grind the nut and stud off. Not much on this car still has the original electronic systems but for the air bag reset I dug out the old Rover Microcheck to reset the SRS while I mess about finding the correct resister for the light.
