Hurrah! Having SORNed it at the end of May due to lack of finances and using the Starlet, I've finally got the 240K MoTed and it'll be back in use as of tomorrow ;D Much thanks to Nick (owner of Mogwhy and friend of ScrapingScrap) for welding it up and sorting the exhaust, he's a hero! Worryingly, on the way to his workshop trundling along the back roads this happened..... The oil pressure wasn't a great concern as it always drops to a low reading at idle, but the temp was a little high Anyway, it had mysteriously lost its coolant while standing. No problems have been apparent since, fingers crossed, touch wood etc, but I'm mindful that I've never yet done a head gasket on this engine and I must be due for it to pop soon. Having got used to driving cars with steering racks over the last few months (including Starlet and Laurel, surprising for old J-cars) it initially felt a bit wobbly with its box set-up, but I'll soon get used to it again I know. Having owned this car for 8+ years and done over 40k in it I'm well tuned in to its foibles. The Camry's turned out to be a great purchase and will serve me well as sensible winter transport/loadlugger, but I'm so pleased to be back behind the wheel of this that I had to share it

Great news about the welding & MOT! ;D Hope the engine is ok too. Looks very tidy in the pic. BTW, is it pillarless?

Good man, it's always great to get back into a favourite retro after a break, kind of rekindles all the reasons you bought it for in the first place. Enjoy it ;D

Great news about the welding & MOT! ;D Hope the engine is ok too. Looks very tidy in the pic. BTW, is it pillarless? Well, if need be there's 2-3 spare engines here That photo flatters it - starting to get a bit bubbly on the panels and Nick reminded me I must get some Waxoyl or similar onto the underside otherwise it's going to be a nasty job when/if it eventually gets a proper resto. Other side has varying shades where it's had poor repairs in the past, before I bought it. The bonnet is twisted and leading edge getting bad, fortunately I have a good spare without having to break the yellow one alongside it. But most importantly, yes it is pillarless. All windows electric too, so you can drop them single-handed if cruising about for maximum effect PAS too for maximum laziness.

Great news! I bet it feels a bit strange after not driving it for so long. Amazing what can go wrong with a car when its not being used.

Good work man, you must be stoked!
You'll have to slap some JDM rims on it, and do a photo shoot somewhere.

Awesome! I'd been meaning to email you, saw an identical one in Felixstowe a couple of weeks ago and wondered if it was yours. Trouble was, when I saw the old motor coming towards me I was so busy looking I nearly drove the wife's Vectra into it! Never realised how well equipped they are either - PAS and electric windows - you've got to wonder why so many people DIDN'T buy J cars....

Lower. JDM rims. JDM back lights. Wing mirrors. J numberplate. If you ever find a set of arch extensions I'll be amazed. Oh, did I mention that you should lower it Mr SL?

It got me to work with no hint of overheating or other problems, other than one wheel coming loose as garage hadn’t tightened up nuts (grrrr). When I stopped to investigate the clonking noise I then found the rear arch trim was flapping around, so that’s now in the boot……
Some sort of arch kit would solve many problems. Already got the JDM back lights in it, plus you’ll notice it has JDM front light surrounds and mounts (sit deeper, you see). For the moment I’ve spent enough on it and other cars, I’ll just concentrate on using it for now.
At one time the yellow 240K was going to get the silly mod’s, but as I’ve barely got the cash to run one I would like to get some subtle stuff done on the maroon one.
Jonnysierra, great to know there’s another one around – can’t think whose that would be. For the time they had a lot of toys, but there are JDM versions with even more stuff.

A small supercharger, a decent nitrous kit and nothing visible. Big brakes under steel rims with chrome trim rings and rust on the wheels. "haha" said the odd looking man at the traffic lights

I thought you were selling the yellow one, is that right? Vaguely trying - not so desperate that I'm going to stick it on eBay or anything, but it's way too good to break and I've got the gold one for spares so it may as well go to a better home than sit here and fester.

Good stuff SL, such a cool car! My Sprinter's been up for sale for about 50 days now, no serious interest though. I bought a lot of parts and books so the price's a bit high now, probably why no one dares... MOT is due in two weeks so I'll have to get some welding done too and then I might as well keep it a little longer :-), maybe store it during the winter or even get it restored (I'm no good at tech/body/interior stuff. No good at anything really except spending more dough than I have)

Actually, michiel - how easy is it to find something solid, old and Japanese over your way? They pricey?
Realising that the ferrings are damn cheap has me thinking...
