Chaps
I'm shortly picking up a new car. Reg H553 DNJ (J import 1990 Honda Integra RXI 1600cc)
I am trying to arrange insurance for it but in most places it is coming up at as a 1991 Honda Accord Coupe
Can I request with DVLA or 'the sytem' where insurance companies get info to change it?
Cheers

I have had this issue, if your trying to to change the body style or name info you have to go through the DVLA and its a pain in the , took me 6 months to get my Hilux surf sorted and there are still guys on the forum struggling, first thing to do is send the DVLA the V5 along with a letter explaining the mistake. make sure you have copies and send it registered post so they have to sign for it. If you can get them to play ball, include a letter from Honda confirming what the car actually is, Toyota refuse to do this for imports in most cases, I don't know about Honda.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Are you doing online or by phone?
Online, just click 'don't know reg' button and see if it'll let you choose the make and model.
On the phone I'd guess they'd be able to sort it?? Obviously they'd probably need to know it was an import.

DVLA does sound a pain in the aris! Sam - I try to choose the make and model myself but fail because the UK didnt have the integra in 1990 so it wont let me further with the options plus it only recognises 1500 and 1800cc not my 1600cc..

My apologies, I've had to do this with some odd UK cars in the past and guessed it would be the same. Good luck with the DVLA!

My 1972 Sprite is an Austin and not an Austin Healey as stated on the V5. Registered wrong when new. 1022 Austin Sprites were made after agreement with Healey finished and only 82 still, exist all over the world, today. DVLA most unhelpful in how I go about getting this 40 year old error corrected so I've basicaly given up !

If you can get the info, the DVLA change it with little hassle, the logbook for my 1968 142S listed it as a 940 Diesel! (mistake when new my ), fortunately Volvo heritage are superb and sent a letter on headed paper confirming the model/VIN/colour/build date etc. The DVLA accepted this and a new logbook was sent out. Paul H Can you not get evidence from the Heritage Centre at Gaydon, as they may still hold the build information for your car?

We once had a one owner landrover come in as a p/x - 10 years old at the time, it was registered as a triumph! That was a curse word to sort out at the time

So how do you insure it Paul? As an Austin Healey? Not had it on the road at yet ! Insurance shouldn't be too difficult as my company (NFU) are understanding / flexible - real office you can visit with real people you can see instead of faceless "direct" types of insurers that you can only contact via phone, post or email which now seem to be the normal. I contacted DVLA for a copy of the original registration form but even though i sent the required fee they required additional information like council tax bill etc - and said it woudln't be returned ! A visit to the local office (80 mile round trip) was just as fruitless. Spridget club confirmed from VIN number it's definatley an Austin and not an Austin Healey, as do the badges, so I'll probably get a copy of the build records from Gaydon and pursue again when I put it on the road in the spring. Exactly what Bortaf said - go to your local office in person. I've just registered a car which I imported from a country it wasn't registered in..... long story short Borehamwood DVLA office we're very helpful and it was worth a 45min trip, I doubt it would have been so easy posting stuff and phonecalls..

cheers all - my only confusion is that some companies recognise as an Integra from the reg yet the majority note it as an Accord??
Can I just insure it as an Accord if the reg is right?

I wouldn't because if anything happens, you won't get paid out! There's countless Impreza turbo's running around insured as GL's and it will bite them in the in the end. I've had a Austin 1300 countryman which said it was an A40 on the V5 and my current 20v petrol Passat B5 is a Passat SE TDI according to DVLA, even though it says petrol in the fuel class.

I'll probably get a copy of the build records from Gaydon and pursue again when I put it on the road in the spring. TBH, if I ever get round to it, that's what I'll use with mine. What may complicate matters for mine but simplify it for your car, is that on all AHs, IIRC the chassis plate only says Austin....
