A few I spotted on my way home. Nice early Beetle... and then a little later I was "buzzed" by a on-the-deck matt black rat beetle. which was pretty cool. And then theres this. Its local, I see it out and about a lot. There may be two of these or at least two different people drive it. I often see an elderly guy driving it with his very elderly wife in the back. Disabled parking permits FTW.

I'm pretty sure I saw that last weekend doing a wedding in Derby, also spotted the next day on the A38. Phil

Yeah, I'm sure its used for weddings. Its also used for shopping and all that general running about you don;t associate with a vintage Rolls Royce.

It is a pity when pre war cars end up fitted with larger lights like this (the use of trailer lights is quite common), especially on something like this rather elegant and stately R-R 20/25 (where I would really expect some more appropriate light units to be used), but I can understand why it happens. There have been a number of incidents over the last few years (some I believe were sadly fatal) of pre-war cars being mown down at night on motorways by HGVs, whose drivers did not see the characteristically small (but still 100% legal) tail lights It is for this reason that many Austin 7s now have large reflective triangles on the spare wheel covers... For 18 months in the early '90s (before the Amazon arrived), dad used a '37 Riley tourer as his everyday car, and this had quite a few lighting changes to suit modern roads - eg additional tail lights on the wings rather than just the ones each side of the number plate but in a pre-war style (not the useual Moggy Minor or early Beetle lights!!). Also the tail and side lights incorporated the indicators, rather than messy add-on amber lights, so it is possible to have an old car that looks right, and has safe lighting!
