Well... B-8-D's got a nicely suitable XUD11 engine and gearbox that would fit in there quite nicely Even without the turbo fitted, you'll still get a respectable 80bhp, and a nice 50mpg out of it!

Thanks for all your input guys and gals! Today has been mostly spent daydreaming how this would look when done and the one thought that i keep coming back to is....slightly lower and banded's (with paintwork untouched) for the outside, red vinyl retrim for the interior which is kinda needed but the one thing i cant decide on is the running gear! As much as it is a pleasant setup as standard i just cant run standard motor & box in this, the itch to play with it will always be there and i'd only end up thrashing it and killing it so a sensible choice of replacement is needed. Some of you have suggested some awesome options of which i will think hard about but does anyone know of a compact V6 that might fit the bill? Totally unlike me to go for a V6 of any description but to get a V8 in there will need the bulkhead cutting completely out and remaking further back so am willing to go smaller engine. Again, thanks for all the comments chaps! Steve

You could put a Triumph 1300 in - nice lively little engine, compact four-speed box, economical when set up right. Make a nice combo I reckon Cheap as chips to find, too. -edit- Should have read page 3 (re the V6) first, hehe...

Get a 2 litre bmw diesel with gearbox, steal the engine covers and dials from a rover 75 (same engine) have lots of power and torque small 4 pot and rwd. It would puzzle the purists at shows too win win.

My viva lump will be available when it comes out (over christmas hopefully!) and despite me 'thrashing' it every day 50 miles to work and back it refuses to die or use oil lol Definitely need to try and keep the outside appearance almost standard, I echo the slightly wider wheels and very slight drop

Pre-Selector is ace, I think it was for when most cars used crash gearboxes. Bit pointless when you've got the quick smooth change of a syncromesh box.

I will think hard about but does anyone know of a compact V6 that might fit the bill? Not sure on size but Audi V6 TDi? Or to keep it on marque Rover V6 (from 75 etc). Mark

I like this alot, so much so that i am posting as opposed to lurking. To keep this in the Daimler etc family, what about the V6 from a modern Jag S Type? I also agree that the car needs to remain stock in external appearance, with a subtle lowering, wheel combination. I would even go so far as to say, not banded wheels, just a more modern wider steel, to provide the upgraded foot print.

How about the curate V6 fitted to an S type Jag. Even a suitable donor in the for sale section.

Straight Six or modern four cylinder engine. Uprated front suspension, tub the rear arches and band the original wheels at the rear. Uprated brakes.
Keep the exterior stock, shiney black and crome with hubcaps. Original interior.
Now watch the looks as a 100+ mph "classic" comes past!!!

So went and picked it up today It seems that the chassis has survived well but the body is gonna need some love to make solid again i was expecting that so no bother. Went and got some petrol, robbed the battery off the Viva and put it on to see if it could be fired up......after a few mins fiddling i got the thing running (if you can call it that) and attempted to make it move under its own power to which i can report the gearbox does indeed work as it stalled the poorly running engine quite easily carb needs cleaning out and the timing is all over the place so will have a fiddle at some point. Unfortunatly it really is one of those cars that look better in pictures than real life but we haz the tech to fix that The interior is an absolute mess and will be getting pulled out at some point to inspect the wooden sub-structure but as and when funds allow i will look into getting the seats retrimmed. Plans are being formed and plenty of ideas are floating about as to which course this will take but i hope i wont disapoint Cheers Steve

Great to see cars like this getting the treatment, makes a nice change from the usual base material. Judging by the reg no. the car originally hails from the Swansea area.
