You need to tub the rear, imagine being sat behind it as it is but with some 10" tyres under the stock arches. Pinto, Viva front, Escort/Anglia rear, keep it simple and subtle I recon. You aint making this easy for me! lol Perhaps you and mr B8D would like to pop over sunday afternoon and voice your ideas?

I'd be tempted to leave it 'as is' outside, with something like a 58bhp 1256cc Vauxhall engine/4-speed upfront. Won't tax the rest of the running gear too much, bits are easily available, and 35mpg would make for a fun useable daily. Sensible old bl33der, ain't I? LOL I tell ya what Bri ...... that is EXACTLY what I was just thinking! Bit of a pain though as I just sold my old 1256 on Has Sir Grunty of Gruntyville Mansions still got the 1600GT X-flow/4-speed out of that Dutton??

If it were mine, I'd have to chop and section it, some big wire and narrow wheels, pie crust cross plys and a ford zetec. Something of this kind of flavour. Although.....

What about a VAG or Bosch pumped PSA TD engine and box adaptor for veg goodness, Economy and torque? If you are going to tub the back end then you will need a narrower axle anyway and can fit something strong enough.

My first thought was RV8, 3.5 on carbs (engine pornography to me)
Haven't you got the engine that was destined to go into dragRover...?

Although..... definitely prefer the second one. I wouldnt change too much at all, its got a nice shape to it already so don't want to OTT it and ruin it

stock outside, stock inside, dropped a bit over slightly different wheels and with decent modern underpinnings ( stay true to the brand, Lanchester was bought by Daimler who were bought by Jaguar who merged with landrover who are now part of Tata!) So anything Jag or Landy (XJR engine and chassis )

Personally - if it were not going to be a daily - I'd like to see it retain a pre-selecting 'box, albeit with a bit more grunt, so that it's a bit different. Daimler Conquest 6 pot? Probably wouldn't be cheap though. BTW, make sure you put the gearbox in neutral when stationary - quite a few people have been run over or pinned against the garage door by cars with pre-select boxes creeping forward in 1st, especially if the idle's a bit high. For a cheap'n'reliable option, what about a 1275 A series from a Midget? Tough as old boots, simple, and widely available parts - you can even get an overdrive.

Steve, that is awesome and I am more than a little bit jealous What about a C20NE lump in it from a Calrton? Cheap/tourquey and would be good on the juice for daily duties

So anything Jag or Landy (XJR engine and chassis ) Which referring back to a comment about BMW diesel power could mean a TD4 engine from a Freelander (or 3/5 series), 150BHP I think. (You could always make it 4WD ;D.)

Road going gasser look would probably be easiest I reckon. Stronger back axle on the stock leaves, leave the front standard, 15x8 slots on the back with the arches radiused, skinny slots on the front, stock Rover V8 or similar so it makes the right noises.
Get some pics of the chassis up - without looking at how easy it would be to lower without chopping it up it's hard to advise.

Nice, the LD10 is not a bad body for a daily. I cut my teeth on Daimlers and have driven a fair few pre-select boxes, they're not bad once you get your head round them What ever you do it'll turn out well but I agree with one of the first posts, don't mothball it while you decide, get it running and rive it for a while!
