Greetings! Not on here as much as I used to, mostly down to a frustrating couple of years in and out of work and with that projects coming and going without much happening to them......but now ive been in gainful employment for a constant 8months solid I'm feeling the mojo returning and have re-started getting the Viva upto scratch and felt the need to buy the next project following that ;D So 10mins ago I won this....... MEGA chuffed! It caught my eye simply due to being local to me and.....well.....ive always wanted to do a hot-rod build I'm picking it up Sunday and bringing it home but will be parking and covering it up until I'm further along with the current project, but I'm a little undecided as to which course I should take with it My gut instinct is to drop it, banded steels and a V8 of some description(flathead ) but another part of me says keep it a four-banger and just tidy it up for daily use. I would like the RR collective take on this, if you were doing it.....what would you do? Standard just isnt good enough for me (just so you know ) Cheers Steve

I reckon keep it as stock as you can bodywise (including the original paint), put something modernish and reliable under the bonnet and drop it over some (tall rather than wide) painted steels and whitewalls.
Lovely.

Awesome Patina! Drop it a bit over some Smooth painted steels.
Out of interest, what the hell is it?

very little room for anything other than stock pram wheels at the back without some serious metalwork .

I was thinking a slight band just to bring the rim out to the edge of the arch, nothing heavy as i don't feel the need to be tubbing the rear arches unless i was running serious power Steve : I hear ya mate, might be the way to go Rmad : I'm liking the idea of leaving the paintwork but not sure on the whitewalls.......i shall ponder on it ;D Garry : Not sure on a screaming J motor....but then it would certainly be different!

Slightly Banded Standard steels painted a nice colour, and lowered a tad. You have to keep as much of that Patina as you can!

You need to tub the rear, imagine being sat behind it as it is but with some 10" tyres under the stock arches. Pinto, Viva front, Escort/Anglia rear, keep it simple and subtle i recon.

I'd be tempted to leave it 'as is' outside, with something like a 58bhp 1256cc Vauxhall engine/4-speed upfront. Won't tax the rest of the running gear too much, bits are easily available, and 35mpg would make for a fun useable daily. Sensible old bl33der, ain't I? LOL
