I grew up around vintage race cars, modified 50s-70s tin top race cars and legions of model cars of all different ages. Every year from age 8 onwards I went to the motorshow religiously and read back issues of Hot Car and the latest Street Machine until my eyes bled. Why oh why then did I want one of these when I started driving? This exact model too. I can remember firmly believing the five door was the best... Wow, that took some admitting.

Holy curse word, just looking back at that last post gave me a twinge of still actually wanting a five door Nova. WTF? Nutty isnt it?!! A kids mind is a melting pot of all things and seems to be random stuff that sticks with ya. I even planned out my retirement LOL. I was gonna have one of those Metro's - I five door flavour with the coloured diamonds on the side (ghay) . Figured that when i'm in my sixties I'd not be bothered about speed or the lovely exciting cars i'd had uptil my sixties, and a 5 door embarrassing Metro was what i needed! Random enough. Funnyly enough my head still is a melting pot and still churns out random ideas! ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I still have the drawings somewhere of my ideal home, it was set in a jungle with a huge basement full of cars after I saw a similar thing in Monte Carlo (The garage, not the jungle ) Bryn - Aged 32 I like to think that back then I wasn't effected by trends, fads or other peoples opinion so my interest was based on my own knowledge and nobody elses influence. So maybe I should get a five door Nova? I just lost that oh-so-cool Rekord on the bay after it went over my limit... It's a Vauxhall. LIVE THE DREAM

hmm.
i remember wanting a Sierra. we used to ride our bikes and choose what cars we wanted. I do remember often picking a Sierra. I also remember wanting an E30 after seeing one on top gear (it was red too funnily enough!)
i always went for the whole, 'my dad has this car' therefore its cool sort of thing. unfortunately, he owned Skoda's! So, thats pretty self-explaintry, its always really been Skoda's; though I've liked anything eastern european. i've quite a few memories of Skodas whilist i was growing up. funny story, when the octavia was first released i was 7 or 8, and Top Gear did a thing where they put an octy, and two rivals in a room, and covered all the badges. then tehy got members of the public to come and check them out and choose which one they liked. when they couldnt see the badges people mainly went for the octavia, but when the badge was revealed everyone said that there was no way they'd own an octavia coz it was a skoda and the like. i do remember crying over that!! OMG, HOW SAD AM I? ever since a young age I've wanted a 911 Turbo, and there never really has been a car i havent liked. bikes on the other hand never really interested me. i went on the back on my dads old Panther occasionally, and liked the sound but never imagined riding one. then my dad offered to get me one for my 16th birthday provided i ride it and he could choose it, so i agreed and ended up with the MZ. damned thing - i love it and am now trying to juggle a car and bike addiction! darn- its a hard life.

Seeing as this is confession time, I'd wanted a Volvo Amazon ever since I first heard of one & long before I knew what they even looked like! Not entirely sure why though but I believe that Arthur Ransome may be partly to blame.... The only other car that I really lust for is a proper (ie twin cam) Riley - this has been the case for as long as I can remember What has really changed though is my appreciation & understanding of patina - before the Amazon arrived when I was 13, I didn't 'get' scruffy / non immaculate old cars

Great confessions coming out there from Paul H and Skudnorm! ;D Living and learning is the only way forward. Seems a lot of us have pretty much hit our (realistic) goals, says a lot about us i reckon. Also many of us are juggling other stuff to keep or get our machines. Certainly seems to be some early seeds planted. Equally important is a plan for the next ten years. This is where i'm losing it! Ideally purchase a yank, a custom retro, a house, and a good work DD. Reality: one or none of the above, lot of boxes to tick in the mean time....... another on the list are these any good?

Oddly I never lusted after a Mercedes. Right up to when I bought it, it wasn't on my wish list... I mainly wanted obscure stuff that no-one else wanted in my later teens - Skoda Rapids, Lada Niva / Riva estates, Landrover 101, Austin Ambassador (odd that's just come back to me!)

reanimation in da house: Equally important is a plan for the next ten years. This is where i'm losing it!Don't even want to think 10 years into the future right now. But for the next months ahead I just want to be able to get some Hot Rod flavour on my T22 before it's time again for it to do winter duties..... When it comes to 4 wheel plans I don't really need to have any, the Shop Hack is doing a great job at beeing day to day transport, sure if that perfect (cheap in other words) Audi A8 becomes available I'll buy it, paint it black suede, slam it and on a set of 18" Moon Discs, I'll go cruising.... DP says: 2 wheel plans on the other hand I have plenty of.....
