I was pretty fanatical about cars as a kid and so were my bezzie mates at Junior school so we used to aimlessly chat about what we'd have when 'grown up'. Being 'grown up' really appealed; you know, buying a cool motor and other items not available with piggy bank funds, moving out from the folks and not have to spend time at smelly school and all! ;D A lot of time was spent discussing this and i cant believe believe how hazy my memory is. So i'll try remember... Based on cars available then but being realistic and not particularly buying new. It wasn't dream cars as such, just ones i'd bezz about in, a buggy and a knight rider way top of the dream list. I think a firm favourate based on my matchbox collection was goona be an RS2000 or Escy, bet thats not so original. Something like this: Suppose the plan didn't derail too much 20 years later after all! Scary. other runabouts were gonna be MK2 Golfs, Fiesta 1.4s, beetles 2cv and a good selection at one time of all models... Mind gone a bit blank but your suggestions will make me remember. Senior school - date (witha break for booze, ladiez, rock n roll, college, uni) I have wanted one of these: If i got one now it would be customised, don't fancy my chances of getting one like and my mind is alive with all kinds of retro filling lists now...

at school i was't too fussed about cars ,i lusted after motorbikes ,rd250/350 lc's and the like.its not until i left school and bought a moped (black honda mb5,done up with jps stylee gold pinstripes) did i actually realise that i was probably better off on four wheels (and more than likely so would the rest of the country) so after dreaming about that celestial trans-am ,porsche 928 ,the six wheeled xjs pickup etc.i decided that i could afford and lust after an all black xr3 escort.funnily enough i never have owned one.then came the grand plans of x pack capris, jag d type rep's even a ferrari daytona (yes that one). so far to date,NONE have even come close to being owned by me.

I've only ever dreamt about relatively attainable things, as a kid I remember imagining having an E21 323i, then later on it was stuff like tuned Avengers, Corollas and the like, in my mind always painted black and sitting on a set of Minilites (predictable I know). Also liked the idea of a yellow FE Victor on Centrelines with a V8.
I didn't imagine I'd end up with a driveway full of Datsuns in particular, but the idea of multiple car ownership always appealed and I'm happy that I've achieved that goal. Ditto the ownership of big cheap cars and friends with the same!

At junior school my favourite matchboxes were a bronze Firebird/Trans AM and a white Rally RS2000. At high school it was strictly all about hot rod and kustoms, gassers and the like. Yeah, I'd discovered Custom Car & Street Machine as well as Hot Rod, Street Rod & Machine Monthly, Hot Car... all those great mags of the day Rodded Minors, Pops, and Custom Cortinas were coooooool too. Then I perved my way more over to American muscle, big 60s sedans and 50s fin monsters. I think because the rod magazines ot a bit boring when it all went for red roadsters every feature, every issue... When I was at college I wanted an FD Victor. So I got what I wanted I guess more or less. Never thought they'd be this much grief though

I have to aslosay that as about a 10 - 11 year old I spent an awful lotof my time peering into back yards, behind industrial units, railway sidings and other such places looking at the abandoned or derelict cars there - Austin Cambridges, Minors, A40s, Consuls, Minxes and the like and planning what I could do with one, when I was like 16 so I'd have it done and all custom for when I was 17 and could go razzing up the village with my chrome wellers and sidepipes... Nothing has changes. Doomed from an early age.

I too took note of local customs and bought out of date custom mags off the market. i was interested in volvos at VOC meets specially 480's when they came out, never planned to own one but i did spare a lot of thought for the PV's at national rallys. 4x4 beasties featured too as well as a moto x road/trail bike. Big plan also own a VW LT and build a home out of it traveller style, or a Murvi bedford cf/Fiat ducato What scares me most about this exercise is that things have not changed much at all! *gulp* Its cool too, better than driving a vectra and giving up on dreams/plans....

Rather embarassingly I wanted a Suzuki Vitara for a while when I was about 13, with the wide-boy tat on it too. I know, my therapist says I should talk about it openly now though... As a younger kid I wanted a Pontiac Firebird, with the full-on eagle on the bonnet and all that stuff. I lived in Blackpool at the time and the place seemed to be full of them, bizarrely. I used to see three just round my neighbourhood.

As a teenager back in 1979/80 area I wanted 4 WheelsAston Martin Vantage (had a huge print of one on the bedroom wall - flanked by a volante of the same year (nonce version of same car) or Opel Monza (Dad was a Ford man thro and thro so I had to find a non Ford alternative to a Ford Granda Coupe although I did secretly like them) I can't put a picture up of one - you've all seen enough ;D Still want a Vantage and one day I reckon I will get one...... But I've owned a couple of Monzas 2 wheelsCB750SS (SOHC) - in white/red managed to aobtain by foul means a Dealer poster of one. (Can't find a picture of one on the web) or Moto Guzzi Le Mans MKII in black/gold Closed I got to the Honda was a 550/5 (bored out to 700) and the Moto Guzzi a V50 - Neither would be on my "Hot List" now But I do still want a Yamaha XS1.1S (Black with gold wheels) again but I am losing hope of ever finding one that hasn't been converted to a trike or semi streetfightered Hmmm nice thread

When i was at school me and my mates had a brand loyalty to what ever our Dads drove and inevitably we all though that these would be our first cars. There were many a playground argument as to what was faster, my dads Sierra Sappy Ghia vs Audi 80 or Renault Laguna or Nissan Primera ;D My dad replaced the Sierra with a mondeo but i still lusted after the sierra.

Hmmmm I lusted after loads of things. To start with I really wanted a mk1 escort. Then I started reading rev's and fastford and wanted all manner of things R5's/Saxo's (got one now:-/) mk2 fiesta's. Basically changed what I wanted every 5 mins (still do). Later into my teen I wanted a Mini and I got one bu then I sold it and got into dubs when I bought a Polo Coupe S for £45 when I was 16. Fixed it up and drove it for a first car.

Something different every week for me as a kid! Maybe that's why I go through so much stuff now. Short attention span. Something I did lust over in my teen years (as well as cossie's and other 'school-boy' stuff) was the E30 BMW. Nice red one please! Took me till I was 25 to get one, mind. But then other stuff like kids & mortgages did get in the way first!

reanimation in da house: Plans of the retro children...I think it started sometime around 6 or 7, I used to spend the summers on the south coast at grandma's house and every day I walked past this shop with a Honda Monkey Bike in the window, seems like they never sold it because it was there summer after summer, that's really the first time I got the urge for 2 wheels with motor. Later on I actually bought one of these little fun things.... First motorized vheicle was a Husqvarna Compact moped that I customized, chromed and painted lime green metall flake and showed at Stockhom Hot Rod Show the year I turned 15, I won best moped, best paint MC and rookie of the year. It was based on one of these... The result of my first try at Hot Rod Show got me going so the year after I built a 69 Triunmph Bonneville with Morgo 880 kit, 16" rear wheel, Cobra seat, 4" longer fork and a black with flames (by today legendary Ingenar Becker) paint. Still only 16 and not even alowed to drive it I won best bike & paint. Based on one of these.... At 17 I went all out and built a "Iron" Sportster painted green metall flake, with white seat, handlebar grips and foot rests, it had a seriously raked fork and a real South Bay Lowrider look to it but this year I only won best paint, still not alowed to drive it I drove around on a Yamaha 125cc bike. The Sportster was based on one of these.... When I finally turned 18 and could drive my bikes I started to build some serious Harley Choppers and lost all interest in showing, now it was just driving with Denvers MC and a car was just for winters. When turning 20 (1977) I got hooked on the Cal Looker and built probably Swedens first Cal Looker on a 66 VW Bug, all the right stuff with Empi wheels and all, wanted more power so I got another 66 and stuffed it with a Porsche 912 motor & gearbox and went street racing, was probably the first to use NOS on the street over here in the late 70's. After that it was serious drag racing for some years and off to the US of A and more street racing and building bikes & cars but by the I was adult..... DP says: I will always have that teenager in me that just want to do what I like.....

I always wanted something different from one day to the next, but I seem to remember my two fave Matchbox toys at age 7 or 8 were a purple Renault Fuego (which appalls me now) and a silver/grey Sierra XR4i.
My best mate just wanted a tractor like his (farmer) old man had.

I can't really remember what I was lusting after as a young teen (of a practical nature - F40 FTW otherwise!). Once I started buying Street Machine and Custom Car (and then all the US rod mags I could find) when I was 15 that's kinda where my desires went and I gave up on all the "normal" car mags. Having a dad with a tuned V8 powered car helped me too ;D.
I guess I was 16/17ish when Matt Howell had his flamed A35 and I thought how cool and attainable something like that would be when I bought my first car a year or so later.....

Well then.... as far as Matchbox cars went, my all time favourite was probably my 205 T16 rally car, closely followed by a Mk2 Supra which had an opening hatch! I always liked the more "mundane" ones. Such as the Mk4 Cortina I had, the 4dr Mk1 Golf GL (which incidentally, had mismatched plates!) the awful yellow XR4i Sierra among others. I had the Ferrari's, the Lamborghini's etc but for some reason being able to have toys of cars you could see down the street always captured my imagination.
Bikes were my passion as a youngun, dad has always had a healthy stash of pre 80's Japanese bikes, currently he has 9, plus a late model Triumph Sprint ST. My favourite was always the 1969 Kawasaki Mach III 500, a 2 stroke triple of epic awesomeness. He's still got it, and it is destined to be mine some day. But yeah.... anyway, when I turned 6 I was given my first motor vehicle from my folks, a 1968 Yamaha FT1 50cc trail bike. Dad bought it because it had a proper clutch and 4 gears (not some pansy auto box with centrifugal clutch for his son!). I used to hoon round on that, pretending it was something of much grander purpose.
The car that was ALWAYS on my wall, was a Ferrari 308 GTB QV, to this day I think that's still one of the finest looking cars ever, and truth be known it's likely one of my ultimate dream cars.
At age 9 I first laid eyes on an Alfasud, as my uncle bought one and built it up as a club race car, I went for several rides in it, and I was immediately hooked. I had to own one of these when I was "grown up." 7 years later I realised the dream, and bought my own, and almost 8 years down the track I still have it. Sometimes I go out into the shed, and just admire it, because it's not often one is able to get hold of their childhood dream car! Sounds sappy, but yeah.... well.
Don't know if that said much, but yeah, hope you enjoyed my ramblings looking back into my (fairly recent really) childhood.
