I'm not a designer, am I special? ;D I'm just a greasy student who wants to be a journalist when he's all grown up! ;D Could be worse. We could be surrounded by interior decorators in frilly shirts with bloody stupid bourgeious middle class accents who think everything's "just lovely!" AAAAARRGH! BLOODY LAWRENCE LEWELLIN BOEING! WHO LET HIM ON THE BLOODY TELLY?! For those of you who live in a country that doesn't get British telly, you're lucky!

Poor old SkoCan, surrounded by designers! I bet if we all got together we'd have the rockin'est design agency ever! All these diverse branches of design. Rmad might not admit it, but he's good with a set of pens and paper as well. New thread idea- is there anyone here that isn't a designer? 13 years, architectural & commercial coatings. I used to be surrounded by the bloody designers and architects. (Architects are still worse) Now its practical transportation and (impractical)software end-user stuff. When I'm not driving 'course. Bad traffic beats designer any day. PS Been in interior design too. No frilly shirt ;D

;)When not poncing about on here, myself and Jabbo are Land / Building surveyors. In fact we're just off in a mo for a night shift measuring up one of London's finest (?) tube stations. Joy. Understand where Skocan is coming from: All day we get the architect chappies asking silly questions and trying to get us to do half the CAD work for them!!

I'm not a designer I'm a tecnician for VW but I'd love to get my hands round the throats of the car desigers who have no thoughts about how to change things once they break (which they do, A LOT) only about what is the quickest/cheapest way to nail the car together in the first place, don't worry if I have to disassemble the whole bloody car to get to the headlight bulb, or forget to design a seal to stop oil curse word out past the crankshaft pully!! seriously polos have a mod because of this! Sorry rant over, must reset factory programming chip now................... !!!!

Well I can draw and like painting, but in the world of banal normality I'm a Compliance and Risk Analyst for an investment company so really should know better than to pour all my money into an old car!!

It's the engineers that you need to talk to, not the designers (ie stylists) ;D

Sorry rant over, must reset factory programming chip now................... !!!! I hear you, I mean, what's with the layout of modern engine bays? Do you really need all those plastic covers? What do they contribute? Volvos until the front wheel drive models came in lacked any stupid covers and shroudings that stop you from seeing any leaks, and even with a big turbocharged V6 from a 760 turbo, an engine change is not a problem if you have the minimum of equipment. And part of the reason I like Imps is you can see everything the minute you open the engine bay, and if you can't get to a part for some reason, you can get an Imp engine out in half an hour as long as you have the basic toolkit that you shouldn't be without in any motor, from a Mini to a Scammel, anyway.

I feel this thread has somewhat drifted - oh well! Designer is rather a broad job desciption! I work as a designer too, for a company who make Architectural metalwork - shopfronts, canopies, interior trimmings etc. I have to try and produce drawings from an architect or concept designer's outline brief/drawings so that the guys can make it in the factory - I have to try and please both & if theres any problems along the way its always my fault My company did make a few chassis for the failed FBS sportscar - a V6 Duratech mid engined 2 seater, which handled well but was way ugly!

Rmad might not admit it, but he's good with a set of pens and paper as well. That's actually a pretty cool idea, imho. I'm trying to start my own agency for advertising/communication design. No money in it at the moment at all, but I'm always on the lookout for people who may be interested in trying to get something new and exciting off the ground. I know people I want to target, but as I'm not a graphics person (I'm conceptual/copy - can "see" the graphics and stuff that I want but am not able to produce them myself to a high enough standard) it gets a bit tough. WWould be interested in talking to anyone who would be interested in trying something daring...

I beleive the official collective noun for a group of designers is a tantrum. (hello I'm back from hols). Yes I am a designer. I run my own agency called Meme (cool name huh), you can find us at www.memedesign.co.uk. I think retro cars and designers are the perfect fit as it allows us to stand out from the crowd now that too many people are wearing black clothes. We work mostly in publishing where black is a defacto uniform, so much for individuality! Visiting the Frankfurt Book Fair last October it was embarrassing, a tide of black moving towards the exhibition. I was just getting all indignant when I remembered that I was also dressed in black. And yes I would love to own a Citroen DS, but as I have a history of owning other Citties, XM estate and Visa Gti (mad car) perhaps I can claim mitigating circumstances. Back on thread... Tees, cool, like the first one best, the orange strip will be costly as most screen printers charge by area for each colour, also hard to print on ready made shirts. Like the idea of them being not white, cool blue works well for me. Ciao, I'm off for a frappamochalattechino.

Blue t-shirts would do me too, white isn't the thing to wear when there's a chance of ending up under your motor getting covered in oil fixing stuff (which is just about all the time when your daily driver is a Hillman Imp like mine! ;D ;D) Strange, I'm not even a designer and I've been running around in black shirts, trousers and combat boots (bad ankle, needs lots of support, can't wear trainers to cut a long story short! ) for years now. Annoying, it used to mean getting invited to rubbish partys and gigs by really awful Nirvana tribute bands!

Back on topic ;D ... I'd love a T-Shirt. I don't mind which design, but I'd ask that the shirts be sourced from somewhere that does large sizes... I'm a big bloke and all the T-Shirts I ever see only go up to XL or XXL - in many I'm XXXL

I wouln't mind a t-shirt either, add +1 to the 'large' pile please i'm not a designer by trade, but i do websites and play around in all manner or art packages from NeoChrome on the Atari ST up to PhotoShop ... I look after servers and dispense sage computer advice during the day

Maybe it would be a good idea for eveyone to get their net 'handle' (ie iRocco) printed to the back of the T-Shirt so everyone know's who's who at shows etc...........!?

Nice idea, my friend!
Unfortunately members would probably have to be responsible for doing this themselves with iron-ons. The cost of getting it done during the manufacturing process would be [glow=red,2,300]horrendous![/glow]
