Meet the latest addition to the household, a 1996 Citroen Ax 1.5D Dimension. The panda is quite rusty and I think winter would have killed it, so I needed a cheap economical car. Its not in the best condition as the paint on the roof and bonnet is hand painted, but i'm happy with it Now up for sale (sorry about the pic size)

My Uncle Had a Brand New 1.5D Elation Back in 1996! I love the fact they have wine bottle holders in the doors.

What a beast! There's a site you might be interested in, it's www.lower.com/it . I jest, looks to be in fairly tidy nick compared to some others I've seen for sale. Definitely one of those cars that'll achieve full on retro status within the next couple of years

Mum and Dad used to have one the same age. 1.5Diesel Debut. Was a cracking little motor and did 65mpg with 2 adults and 3 teenagers in it. The one gripe we had was its tendency to grind is mudflaps on the road when cornering But then again ours was always pretty well loaded ;D

I actually quite like the little ax. just don't crash it because we all know how badly these fold don't we. one hit our mk2 cavalier many, many years ago and wrote it off (the ax not our cav) due to the bonnet folding badly. our cav only had a smashed headlight lol.
but the mpg figures are pretty bloody good, use the same engine as the 106 diesel IIRC

meh I've seen them hold up pretty well in a crash as well. Certainly better than a metro or twingo.
Good purchase there, they made one of these do 94mpg when it first came out!!! There's a pic in the Citroen celebration thread.....

Great little cars these, needs lowerage though! Should be perfect as a winter runner, surprisingly good in snow

Wow your tacho goes to 12! But I don't suppose you really need one with a diesel. Congratulations should be fun for you.

Strangely all the radio presets are tuned into French stations, so maybe my vision of the frenchman in bordeaux was right ;D

Both my sister and brother had AX diesels at the same time. My favourite memory of my sisters one is her calling me up after a a trip to aberystwyth to tell me I had found her a dud car because the fuel gauge didnt move the whole way and in her old AX (1.1 petrol) it used to move a load on that journey. As you probably guessed it wasnt broken it just hadn't used any fuel!

I had one of these few years back great on juice, nippy for a diesel (me flogging it everywhere might have had something to do with that) mine could be a right pig to start but I ended up with a bit of a soft spot for it. Then I hit a traffic island with the passenger side front wheel wrecked the front end while working down south, welded it up but it was never gonna be straight it so got scrapped.
