Has anyone any experience of fitting inertia reel type seatbelts in place of 3-point 'fixed' affairs?
Can I just go on a raid to the scrappy and rip some out of something else and bosh them in on the same mountings, or are there any other issues to consider?
The 'static' belts in my Humber are SHAT... they work as far as the MoT man is concerned, but are obviously designed for Kate Moss - they don't fit round me (yes, I know I could maybe lose a couple of pounds but I'm hardly A Massive Fat Bueller).
I don't really like not wearing it as it's a bit like going out without your trousers & pants on - just feels odd. *awaits a public 'dissing' for being a big jessy*
If I wanted to put some in the back as well what do I need to consider? Obv, they'd have to be mounted to something pretty structural.....

Totally agree, the only thing that saved me when i had my first crash was the fact i had replaced the fixed lap an diagonals with three point harnesses. The doctor said i should have died, yet i only came out with bruises.
Anyone who dosent wear a seat belt has left home without their brain! Look at the poor chap and his fit in reader rides, bet he wished he'd put his seat belt on! (no offence meant)
I'm unsure of inertia reel belts, a good friend of mine put them in his chammy but they were from a specialist. I always recommend 3" four or five points, less brusing, less chance of internal injury.

Multi-point harnesses seems a bit overkill in a 'cruising' type car though - I'm not going to be driving it like a nutter... it's more a bit of reassurance than anything.

as long as where they mounted from the above the shoulder bit on the b pillar and on the floor is the same length getting some new ones from a supplier
should be strengthening done even for static belts no?

You should be OK fitting inertias to the same points. If you do decide to get some from a scrappy, make sure they're not from a crashed car! Some (all?) are desigend so that they only allow the belt to be pulled out when the reel is dead horizontal to prevent them from letting go if your car overturns. Thbis can be tricky in some sports cars (and Heralds!) but if the upper B post point is directly above the lower point where the reel fits you should be fine. Hoep that makes sense. Are you sure the statics are adjusted right though? I've always found them to be pretty good. You can usually adjust both the lap/diagonal section with a sliding type thingy and the buckle end too.

Seconded - I have static 3 point belts front & back in the Amazon and they're fine once you're used to adjusting them.

I've got statics in the front and inertias in the back.seem to work fine (even though every time my mate gets in I have to do the front belt for him ) As hairnet says,you really ought to buy new ones if only for peace of mind

Any inertia reel belt ought to fit. I fitted a set from a Mk3 Escort in my Skoda Rapid when the MOT man found they didn't retract properly. That said, it's proven that seatbelts lose strength when exposed to UV from the sun, so perhaps 2nd hand ones aren't gonna be the safest... mine are 31 years old but I don't really plan on testing their strength (again ) Not wearing a seatbelt is just idiocy, plain and simple. I agree with you Pogweasel - if I'm driving without one it just feels wrong...

They should ajust, as everyone says. just look for some slide thingys... if you still want to change, the mounting points should all be fine, the only thing you may have problems with is where to mount the inertia reel!!! the rest should bolt in nicely, (dab of loctite on the bolt, as your supposed to with seat belts and seats!) it may be easier to use rear seat sockets too, for your front seats! (if there close together, as front ones are usually more bulky, but rear ones have more flexibility Good luck dude! Spazdaguy is giving some away i noticed in the for sale wanted section, only one socket thing tho, sure there are plenty ford ka's/ festers etc that use the same socket bits tho.

There is a simullar thread at the moment on the Humber email forum. Our Snipe didn't have any belts in it when we bought it, Mike fitted Securon 3-point belts in the back for the kiddies. Have a look at the their website: www.securon.co.uk . I think we paid less for them by going to our local motor factors.

You can buy inertia rear belts from Halfords for about £15 each that fit straight on where the old fixed 3-pointers were. I've got them for my Spangularbox but they were reduced to a fiver each.
