All going well / to plan then? BTW, if you ever need a replacement for that locking fuel cap, it looks the same as those used on Amazon saloons.

tis tru, the making of the commer pb was a rush, they used all parts from the roots group and when that failed they used period spares!

Wazzed over to russell's yesterday afternoon for a flying visit (& to take him some cutting / grinding discs)... it seems to be going rather well. Rot reduction is coming along nicely and some new (one-off!!) panels are in the pipeline. The only headaches I can envisage are (1) getting the new side panel to look 'right' - some trial & error may occur.. then there's just this issue of the cacked gearbox casing. Russell reckons they are the same as anything else with a 1725 Rootes (even the spakamatic in my new Humber -looks- the same.... I'm not 100% sure on this though. Are there any Rootes experts who can enlighten???

Good work that man!
You know you've got some work ahead when you need a broom to dispose of bits you've "removed" though. I know that feeling! ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Not yet - I'm waiting for the Sat eve bbq at next years CARS BTW, given her high opinion of old cars (esp mine ;D), what does your missus think of the Commer? I hope she likes it as it's going to be very cool when it's finished

nice one! that pile of rusty bits on the floor by the broom looks a little worrying though!! I'm not sure about the boxes on them, but I'm sure some of the humbers had colum shift manuals and auto's hence, you could find a manual, and take the manual shifter and bolt it to your steering column?

Right. Pretty sure that the '1725' boxes are all the same. Lovely. There's 3 on t'bay as we speak. However, Russ says that it's the bit that goes on the back of the box that's crock'd. Not the propshaft (well that's done for too, but i think a new one has been sourced) but the bit in between.... does that make any sense?
it's the bit that none of the boxes on the bay seem to have on them....

You could try calling Speedy Spares or perhaps Alpine West Midlands? You don't want to know that I had one in the shed in my mums for about 4 years before getting rid of it a couple of months ago for pence via Ebay.

Output shaft casing? Presumably, this can be replaced by an overdrive unit? ;D BTW, as the output shaft casing is fugged, is the output / main shaft itself ok, or is that also u/s?

My problem is this, on closer inspection the output shaft is bent by about 25mm Damage to the propshaft the propshaft off with the other broken bit the original break,

How about hauling the motor out and replacing it with a nice modern turbo diesel out of a van or something? Just an idea
