We're trying to sort out a van to lug our stuff down to Lemans with and I've found all these lovely old ice cream vans on eBay. It fits the bill if you ask me. It's old, it's a van, it's cheap, it's got a freezer that we can fill with beer and it's got an ice cream machine. What more could we want? I might be tempted to buy it myself so I can spray it matt black and turn it into the ice cream van deathmobile from hell and drive it around upsetting kids "FIBERGLASS SO NO BODY RUST."

I've always wanted an old Bedford CF ice cream van, trouble is they seem to hold their money well. Last time i went on a mission for one i ended up with a Princess hearse..... think perhaps the 'cream van would have gone down better with the neighbours!! ;D There was one very similar to the middle CF that was doing the rounds a few years ago - it was packing a 454ci olds motor, looked totally stock including the rims!! Get one bought!

Deeply cool idea!
A few potential problems though - greater frontal area, so it won't be as good for long distance. Also, since they are all used mainly for around town driving, wouldn't they have a povo spec engine & lower gearing? Or would it be as per the normal versions?

My mate bought 2.3 slant 4 ex CF ice cream motor for his Viva HB last year, it's got a crappy little weber carb & the CF's use low - compression pistons.... Goes alright in the viva though! ;D

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

i once hankered after an ice cream van... purely to fill with alcohol and sell it to kids hanging out on the park. make a fortune!
Was even going to change the slogan on the back - "Mind those children..... they're p***ed!"

Jon, Why buy something new when you could convert what you've already got?

Did you know: Anglia ice cream vans were made with removeable floor panels because they weren't tall enough for an adult to stand up in. Little did they know that the saloon variant also has this feature after 5 years of living outdoors
