no troubles volksdave, I made them 250mm long, 50mm wide 6mm thick.. have a ropey drawing.. with working on mine, I'm a touch lucky really as it 'just' fits under my carport, I can do the little bits in my workshop tho.. I used to work for a company restoring VW campers, must have built around 50 of them, hence going for the transit, kinda grown to hate VW buses, the rust, the money, the whole scene really... the transits honest if that makes sense haha.. its dog rough, reasonably fast, and a ton of fun... I have a collection of bits and pieces wheels etc if you decide to band yours.. there's a lad local whose building a semi high top SWB, bands and lowered etc, been helping him out here and there... I'm hoping to get a fair bit of work done on mine over the next week or so, painted up and shiny by April maybe, then do a few shows etc, maybe see you around... here's a few up to date pictures.. installing the loom, oh my days this was a mission, had to keep it complete (loom from the other camper) because it was made mostly from red electrical cable, it has a control board thats very complicated... I re-carpeted the interior, I wanted to use black vinyl, but my GF stated it'd would wreck easy, carpets harder wearing.. this is a 'full' trail fit, I'll be removing the interior again in the new year for a re-trim, new lights etc I've got mint rear doors now, a mint side loader etc, so hopefully I can set about tidying the rough old bird up over the holidays ;D

awsome! cheers for the pic of the hanger dimensions, gotta get busy on mine, weather puts me off as i have nowhere to work on it lol hi5 to the comment about the vw "scene" its all a bit unrealisic for me, i went to bugjam 23, my camper broke & could'nt get anyone to give me a hand to help fix it, i know what had gone wrong but needed help to fix it, i thought the vw folk were a friendly helpful bunch but i found it to just be a bit of a "click" i fixed my camper & buggered off home as i spent two out of the 3 days fixing my van, if i had help it would have been sorted in a couple of hours / i still have my camper but it is'nt practical for me, i'm sure ya know what i mean my transit is an ex-disabled persons van so has a false floor in the back to hold a wheelchair, its all steel so thats gotta come out asap lol picked up some steels today with good tyres so need to get mine banded asap!!! lol :OP mine are 14" transit smiley steels, for the time being i may stick with the standard commercial tyres & stock ride height till i make the rear hangers up there will defo some jealous vw boyos eye-ing up the banded trany brigade on the campsites bud! hehe

Brilliant, that has to be one of the coolest campers I've seen for ages. Stance is spot on and I'm seriously considering sorting banding some steels for the DoKa. Love it.

Just caught up to date with this; looks to have really come on since last time I checked in!
What insulation did you put down under the floor, is it that Super 10 stuff? I'm secretly hoping you're going to say it's some cut price, ebay knockoff equivelant that costs a fraction of the price - as I need something similar for the old caravan I'm currently building!
Also, good to see you're still rocking that cracking Avant! Was the six speed conversion worth the effort in the end? I've just changed jobs and have the option of a company car allowance, instead of a car and I'm seriously considering the 80 Avant option (much to the bemusement of pretty much everyone else!)
All the best, Joe.

hey Joe, the underfloor insulation I used was left over from when I laid the flooring in our house, just some cheap underlay from B&Q... I'd say its pretty effective as we went away in the van a few weeks back, -2 outside but inside was toasty ;D (only a little blow heater going also) I just spray glued it all down, very easy and quick cheers for the cool comments, I'll have a update soon, been modifying a front sub-frame to enable it to sit lower, plus over Easter I plan a massive push in welding and cosmetic mods I could never get rid of my Audi, its a true love affair! haha.. the six speed box is one of the best mods on the car, it boosted mpg basically saving me £20 per month, plus made it more 'tractable' to drive, if that makes sense?..great for bragging also haha... I'm currently giving the old girl a bit of a refresh, I've a rebuilt gearbox, fully rebuilt engine with a few decent custom parts etc... should update the thread really.... get an 80, their so easy to live with, good looking and simple to work on... cheers Ray

hello all... yep yep, small update... I'm so good at updating any of my threads haha I don't keep the van at home due to the other toys/cars I have here, posh(ish) area, limited parking etc, so its difficult working on it, but, I have a loose plan, get it solid this year, use for a few breaks away, paint next year, this won't happen, but hey, got to try haha I started at the front, new wings, home made steps etc, its amazing how these things rot! my bezzie chris ( auto-PROJEX) gave up his workshop for a weekend so I could get the front end sorted
arches were flaired and rolled, not prefect, but that'll be sorted when painted heres a couple of pics of the steps I made from recycled metal when I cut the windows out I'm hoping... one day, I'll stop finding this sort of thing? I also fitted the rear adjustable spring hangers, they work prefect, highest setting is great for use when camping with the family, middle setting as is the previous photos, lowest setting is LOW.. great for shows etc, I will need the slightly notch the chassis tho, Iv'e started the front sub-frame mods, that'll allow about another 60-70mm at the front, again for shows, I'll have a 2nd set of springs to swap in.... in answer to the colour coding etc, roof will stay white, its thin fibreglass, white reflects the heat avoiding wrapping, the bumpers will be painted the same RAL as the wheels... well, thats the plan anyhow

looking sweet ray, did you have to mess with the brakes/compensator when you lowered it-I ask as I have a spare axle for my van now so going to sort the ride height on mine as soon as a get a minute or maybe a day LOL
been pretty busy on mine also, check out my pics on the transit forum, got my banded steels, done a load of rust proofing, stripped the back out to start on making it a dayvan type thing, also donea side exit exhaust as my rear silencer was shot to bits so rather than putting a new bit on, I lost the weight of the rear silencer & made the side exit
