Back in march I had my 30th birthday and my lovely other half booked us both a few days in Prague, Last weekend we headed off for a few days of sight seeing and general mooching around being complete tourists. Did we look round the unsavoury areas at midnight? seeing shows that would make your hair curl? perhaps we visited Big sister? (ask your dad ) No I spent 4 days drooling over this lot...... The first spot out on the Sunday morning was this lovely satin blue (faded) merc, The camera flips nicely out of my belt holster in a kind of "data" from the Goonies fashion and I hear the first groan slip from my gorgeous ladys lips "your'e not going to spend the whole trip taking pictures of clap traps are you?" inspired by the fact that this trip was a birthday preasent to me I instantly reply "Yep!" and casually stroll on. we reach the banks of the river for the first time and look out into the morning sunshine, out comes the camera again and I take a nice picture of the light of my life standing next to the embankment, looking lovingly at me and all is forgiven. Untill we get home that is and she then notices the two Skodas slighty to the left of shot. Completly accidental, honest! On the jouney along the river heading to the old town I spot quite literally hundreds of skodas including loads of 80's 90's models but I hold onto myself confident that I would be rewarded a find of monumental proportions. This method of waitng also looked good to the other half and we took lots of pics of buildings and the river etc etc. Then KaBOOM there it is!! I almost brake my wrist as the camera swings into action and I capture the beast in its natural surroudings, I felt just like a victorian hunter firing at his first lion... Two hastily taken shots of this.... Too much shadow and I failed to find out what it was, but I had it and there was no taking it back from me now. Onward and like a true englishman I was making the struggle up to the castle in the midday sun, blood sweat and tears were all shead over the next 20 mins or so as we turned our backs on the sweet looking cafes and cool drinks machines laughing at us from the doorways of little shops. But then I saw a mirage in the shape of a small little vintage car beckoning to me to go for a drive...... actualy that was the owner but for 1200 Krona each for half hour sight seeing we made off with just a quick snap.

Later that day after a nice look around the castle and a spot of lunch we headed into the centre of prague and spotted my first felicia, also being used for sight seeing but it was there being used and looked bloody gorgeous.. Further down the same street outside a cool looking Cuban restaurant were these two, by now the camera was hardly out of my hand and my girlfriend had resided hereself to the fact that I was indeed a sad fool. But I knew that already so it came as no suprise to me! there V she is looking fed up!

Holy mother of god and all the little children of the Apocalypse, jesus, all the saints... ever, the pope, nelson mandella, terry christian and sonia from eastenders !!1! WOOOOOOOOOT I had found the Chariot of the Gods and if I play my cards right the wedding carridge for my forthcoming big day Obviously I didn't play my cards right and I was brought back down to earth with a crash...... "But, But, But, it's completly ironic, It would be so cool in the fact that it's so uncool and completly against the principles of the original design, not to mention the two fingers to the white streach limos that you hate, with the missing wheel trim and padded roof it would make the ultimate anti statement" "It's pink and it's curse word" She has a point! and it's a good one but I still want it. So we do a bit of shopping and are thankfull for the aircon in the shops, as by now we've got rather hot again from all the excitment of above or maybe it was the 30+ degree heat. But just as I was kicking back into shopping mode this jumped out at me from a side road and put me back into the retro fold. Sadly it looked like it hadn't moved for a few years and had been jumped on by what was probably a group of drunk brit yobs heading to the next stip club. but it was still a welcome sight and something I had been hoping to see, obviously the Sharan was anything but

At this point my understanding and compasionate girlfriend starts to look a little distressed at the amount of excitment that I'm showing to these old motors, so I give her a huge hug, whilst I'm doing this I manage to bag this little french sizzler by guessing the correct angle to hold the camera at on full zoom, which impressed me greatly and angered her even more. opps! As it was now getting late in the day we decided to head back to the hotel for a freashen up before heading out again for dinner. a couple of cheeky spots were nabbed on the way back without causing to much alarm Accord coupe for a bit of J involvement And this lovely sweedish temptress nearly lured me to my death as I ambled straight into the path of a skoda taxi, but I had seen it really and by this point I don't think Sarah would have minded. Day two to follow later this week..

spots from a great break, I had the same problem when we went to Barcelona and Iceland last year, our the 3rd day of honeymoon was spent wandering round a fantastic car museum full of motors a mad collector couldn't bear to part with, then out the back we discovered every car that had broken down in Iceland in a huge scrapyard, a couple of hours of wandering and i was begining to get those looks A trip to the little spa lagoon near our hotel later and she was ready for the next days retro hunting ;D

A familiar story... Great holiday spots! I'm quite an expert at sneaky retro-spotting, until we get home and the pictures get found! Check out the rack on that! A rusty old motor and graffiti...two of my favourite holiday photo subjects! ;D

Right a streched Trabant is mental enough, but where the hell did he get the clear rear clusters from?

Day 2: curse word! having realised the night before that I'd failed to pack my travel adaptor plug for the battery charger, I now found the battery light showing it was already half depleted, Today I would have to be carefull if I was to have any power left for my grand Finale on the final day ( more about that later) So I didn't get quite as many shots as before but I sure as hell made them count. Having a good look round the old jewish quarter ment there were quite a few sightseeing vehicles about, all of which were in outstanding condition like this Tatra 11. In this square alone there were 6 or 7 vintage cars you could hire out for a tour Next up was the felicia I'd spotted the day before and it's lairy friend. Is that ford citrine yellow? Then just as I'm about to put the camera away for later, this came trundling into view Skoda Van FTW, I didn't get a chance to get a pic of the rear, what with my mouth being on the floor, but it has the coolest little tail fins and sloped tailgate of any comercial vehicle. Next up on Pimp my easten block imperilist ride was this Tatra, complete with tastefull cream leather and comedy hood cover took me three attempts to get a clean shot as people kept walking in front of me! Shocking couldn't they tell my battery was fading fast? Took a quick snap of this old train after using the worlds smelliest toilet at prague station looked quite lost sitting next to two brand new sleek engines.

Spent most of the afternoon looking around the rather good national museam but on the way back to the Hotel I spoted this about 300 yards down a side street, leaving sarah in a cloud of dust and bags I ambled shot down to investigate further... 100300547.5% gorgeous skoda wagon, perfect patina, colour, everything about it was so right except that it wasn't mine! I'd have loved to bring that home with me but sadly I had to make my excusses and leave
