Certainly looks like they've made the effort to do it to a good standard. Thanks for the compliment!! This Minx was supposed to be a forever car for me; I only sold it with great reluctance, when I fell ill. I can say with confidence that although this car looks a bit scruffy in places it is in fact 100% solid and an extremely good car. I really love it, and very glad to see it back in such good hands. Enjoy the Minx, Matt, but I hope that if you ever do decide to sell it you'll let me know...

Just read this from the start, brilliant story and beautiful car! Thanks So happy with it, when I got it back I thought it might be good to get loads of little bits fixed and tidied up, but it has so much character that I can't bear to change anything, just keep it mechanically sound and rock solid, more importantly enjoy it!

Exactly how I like my cars - presentable enough but very usable - my little Javelin is 66 years old and I use it all the time regardless of the weather

Great read! Glad you're back to enjoying it, and the original owner got to see it again. I like that the front bumper still has that kink in it.

I have just finished reading through the complete thread, and found it very interesting. With regards to the clip on red/white light and the 12 volt socket already fitted in the car; the mfollowing my explain it all to you. In the days of yore all vehicles (classed as a motor car) that parked on a public road, during the hours of darkness and which was governed by a 30 mph speed limit, were required to face in the direction of travel, and with the nearside of the vehicle against the kerb. In the case of a one-way street then parking could be on either side, but still facing in the direction of travel. These restrictions applied unless there was some other legal requirement which prevented parking altogether. The vehicle had to display one white light to the front and one red light to the rear, when parked as above. With battery technology not as advanced as today, parking overnight with all side-lights on, or even with side-lights on the offside only on, could well drain the battery. Especially during cold spells and starting next morning could be a fractious event. Therefore a red/white light with only one bulb immediately cut down the drain on the battery and met legal requirements. Vehicles which were not either solo motorcycles or motor cars had to display two white lights to the front and two red lights to the rear during the hours of darkness. Parking on any road with a speed limit above 30mph, required two white on the front and 2 red on the rear, irrespective of their classification. Those where the days that if you got caught, then £5 fixed penalties were strewn about with gay abandon. Another thing to combat duff batteries in cold weather was the use of paraffin heaters alongside the engine during the night, which did go some way to warmiung the engine block, and thus helping the cold morning start. Just shows that I used to be a red-flag man in the old days.

Not done a lot with the car lately, my daily decided to throw a wobbly and give me the longest list of MOT advisories I have ever seen... ...I have replaced the tyres on the Minx after noticing just how bad they were! I've also found a small leak on the oil filter so I'll do a service and swap the filter out soon

Daily is sorted for now, a new wheel bearing, rear arm and a few other little bits sorted it to pass MOT. Then the EML came on and I shredded a pair of tyres... long story short, it is holding in there... for now. Less about the daily and more about the Hillman. One thing had annoyed me since getting the car, the rear parcel shelf had a covering of a tartan fabric, it was far to vibrant for the car. Whilst strolling around Beaulieu I came across so leather offcuts, and for about £3 I got a piece that looked about right... and at £3 I didn't mind if it didn't work out. Pulled off the tartan layer and revealed the layer I attached a good few years ago, it looked a little worse for wear so I'm not surprised it had been changed. I have no idea what sort of glue I should use... but a glue stick or two did the job. I'm happy with that a good (enough) colour match.

Another few months have passed with very little work, I have been making the most of having the car on the road. We are moving next week which should make working on it a bit easier. Giving it a general look over the bodywork is pretty stable, but it needs lots of rubber parts replaced, pretty poor bushes, hoses and seals A bit of a rejuvenation should happen in the first quarter of this year Took it out on for a little drive on New Years Day to a local meet
