Cheers dude, Just wish the curse word would run... Been getting in a little deep with it this evening... Its got, *spark *fuel *loads of compression So i decided to rip the waterpump, stator out of it to check that the pulse generator hadnt come loose and upset the timing... As the most ive had out of it is a burp... Its all fine, The stator and the pulse genny are both within tollerances of resistance and both seem to work correctly. The valve timing is correct too........ Going to check valve clearances tommorow..... Then back to the carb again... quite alot of work involved in getting this case off )
Stator and pulse genny all intact and correctly mounted

It's been a long time since I last worked on a ped so bear with me. To my eyes that pulse generator looks like its soaked in oil and if so is that right!?! To my mind all things electric should be nice and dry, clean and free from any form of liquid/moisture. I'd undo those four philips heads and remove the entire unit, give it a good clean and get it tested to make sure all is ok. Also check those block connectors and make sure you haven't got an intermittent contact on one of the pins. Again I'd clean all the connectors up and apply some electrical contact grease (cheap version Vaseline). If still no joy i'd definatley look at the fuelling system. Does it have an inline filter? If it does bypass it and see if it runs as it could be blocked causing fuel starvation when it starts to really suck it through! If still no joy, i'd try a new plug and ht lead, fresh fuel, and try the coilpack from your other spacy as you know that one works. Failing all this my only other thought would be to swap over the regulator/rectifier unit from your other spacy as 80's and early 90's Honda units are renowned fragile things. Failing all that grab an Ale, sit back and polish it for a while! Good luck and keep us up to date with your progress.
Oh, and try and get rid of that bloody-awful tyre letter paint! The only place for that stuff is on a 350LC running Metzelers lol.

But it seems its right, The oil filler is that side, And theres no seperator between it and the pulse generator... So it sits in oil.... Even the honda exploded diagrams show it that way... Good call on the vaseline... Gotta be worth doing either way.. I'm going to try the carb off the running spacy and see if that will get it going, Along with losing the fuel filter as you said.. Ill try the cdi and reg from the other one too i think.. As for the ale.. Good idea Just in general... lol I might polish it too ;D

Took spacy B out for a run today.. Its only covered a couple of miles since the engine swap, so thought it needed a proper shake down... Went up to winchester, Thru farley mount, Down to romsey and back thru Into Eastleigh... Around 40miles all in according to the trip meter.. All in all I'm very chuffed with it. Its running SPOT ON now. Absolutely perfect. I can drop from 55mph to nothing and it just idles with no faultering. Pulls away with no spluttering too ;D Proper puts a smile on ya face sorta ride Oh and most importantly. Now its got a thermostat, The leg heaters work amazingly!! ;D

I want one! Where are you finding them all?!
Are leg heaters a standard thing on scooters, or is it a spacy special?

As for spacy A.... Ive been out there tonight Again... Looking over it. Again.. I checked the valve gaps (the honda manual is a bit vague on how to set these) They seem ok. Decided another compression test was in order.. Well it seems i found the culpret. curse word all comp. Not sure how i thought it had some last time. My best guess is that i mixed up the two readings and in the heat of the "I'm buying this" moment, Missread it. Cant remember the exact value i got, But i remember it being less than Half the reading i got from spacy B!!! Tommorows job is head off, Check the piston/bore and so on... Seems its recently had a new HG so I'm guessing he foobared that somehow, Ive got a good known piston/barrel and head on the spare (B'S original) Engine. So hopefully that'll cure it

This new spacy is becoming a bit weird now... The new one came with alot of bits... There was some random gaskets too. Having just pulled the head off, Its clear the head has been rebuilt at some point, The stem seals are new.. But the headgasket is a compound one (thicker)... Not what the doctor ordered for a spacy. It should be a solid one... Guess what i found in the gasket set Genuine...(its in between the card) Going to check the head... but seems ok bar being a bit coked up... Seems strange that the bike needs some top end work, And he had the gasket allready but never fitted it. Hope i don't find anymore gremlins when this things running

Leg heaters? blimey, might get a spacy just for that reason my legs freeze on the melody! Ironic how its theoretically more kitted out than a modern scoot, i know what i'd rather have.

Ironic how its theoretically more kitted out than a modern scoot, I know what i'd rather have. know what ya mean. I was looking at piaggio hexagons before i found the spacy forsale. Glad i went for another spacy. You lose 5mph or so... But its worth it.. The leg heaters, Rarity and just feeling like your riding something that wasnt built by someone wearing mittons... Its slow by modern 125cc standards... a steady ride is 50mph. 60mph i reakon would be flat out... down hill maybe more but it would die ;D

Well i could get 45 out of a derestricted modern ped, my melody will only do 25 on a flat but i'd rather that than spend 5 times what i paid for the melody to own something boring.

I keep looking at melodys. Sorta like the idea of getting one as a play thing. 25mph is fine... About the same as a city express and they still make those. To be fair i think the melody could be made a bit quicker, Cant be hard to sling a slightly bigger carb on, Adjust the porting a little and a less restrictive pipe... ... Make it ride like one of those italjet things that are a real pig to keep the front wheel on the floor
